Would you donate your body?

In India there is this practice of donating your body after death so that it can be utilized for medical research. There are organizations where one can enlist oneself so that immediately after death the family members inform them and they come and collect the dead body, to be sent to some medical college for study by the students. Some also pledge their eyes to be taken out and stored in eye-banks for transplanting in blind people. It is absolutely legal and more and more people are doing this. It also has political and social sanction as many of our political leaders have pledged their bodies to be utilized for advancement of the nation in medical research.
Is there any such system in your country and if so, would you pledge you body?
Personally, I find the idea very repulsive. It certainly has its uses, but I could never do it myself.

Hi sudipta,
I have always wanted to donate my body organs since childhood and now as an adult the urge has increased manifold. I feel, it should come from within and i have always felt that tinkle inside. However, there are many like you who find it gross. I shouldn't be judgmental but I strongly feel with advancing time our mind should also progress. Otherwise what's the use of being living in this century! I cannot vouch for others but it would feel nice to be able to be help others who are challenged in any possible way. This would be more than anything else, helping myself. I can do it and will like to do it no matter what.
Thanks.
Here's a link to a similar kinda discussion where my friends crucified me. I am sure you will like it.

yes, it should come from within. Personally I have been able to come to terms with a lot of things like spirituality and reincarnation. Even our Hindu philosophy teaches us not to attach any importance to this perishable body of ours and instead to develop our soul. Even then, I cannot imagine my body being up on a slab with apprentices digging in and tearing it apart with great enthusiasm. ‘I’ would be nowhere then, but still…I cant bring myself to even think of it.

There is no such a practice in our country but if there was, then I would like to give my body so that I can help the less fortunate instead of it going to a waste.
I really love helping people but I dont have any funds so I think giving my body will be the best way for me to help others.

Yes there are many organizations where one can enlist oneself for donation of one or other part of the body or whole body as well for scientific reasons and other good reasons.Because of this innovative idea, many blinds have got eyes to see this beautiful world, many have retained kidneys that were out of use now, scientists have gone to the next level.I want to donate my eyes but I do not know much about the organizations doing this.So if you personally know any such organizations please do tell me.

I personally do not know of any such organization as I am against donating body/body parts. But the local hospital at Faridabad can definitely help you.
