That today is suppose to be the most depressing day? January 21 is the most depressing day because of all our bills will start coming from the holidays and the weather is suppose to be lousy too. Well it is here it freezing cold and cloudy. When I dont see the sun I do tend to get alittle depressed. I heard this on the news this morning and said oh geez thats riduculous. I dont believe in that sort of stuff do you?

Darn! You are right. 21st was day when i felt like i was a big time employer. Paper bills, bin collector, phone, you name it. I didn't quite understand how they all chose to come to me on the same day itself. The weather was also cold but in the evening my circulation was at high.

No I do not believe in that sort of thing at all lol
I get depressed every Month when I have to pay my Bills I hate it lol
I am surprised that we do not have to pay for breathing lol mind you it would be cheaper for me hehehehe
Ok seriously no I do not believe it at all but then again we get Bill every 3 Months but most of mine get taken out of my Disability so when I get my money I only have a few to pay a couple of small ones as Electricity and that has been taken out before I get paid my money and then I get the rest after the Bills are paid

January 21st wasn't a depressing day for me. I didn't have any holiday bills coming in because I paid for all of mine with cash or with my debit card that came directly out of my checkbook. I met my mom on Monday (21st) and we went out to lunch and then went shopping. We had a really good time. It was really cold that day though but I was still in a good mood LOL.

hi TerryZ. Today is not the most depressing day for me. Generally, I don't have many depressing day in my life:).
But I understand that some people may feel a little depressed when the weather is not sunny and there is cold everywhere. I don't like winter, but I don't deel depressed when winter comes.
By the way, my bills are almost the same as usual, so I don't have to worry about them:).
Have a nice day,
jazgottt.

Hi TerryZ, I don't believe that this should necessarily be the most depressing day of the year, but I get the point about the bills. A lot of people really go overboard with Christmas spending, but I'm not one of them. I believe in giving and receiving gifts, but it doesn't have to cost a lot of money. as for the sun, I agree with you, I always feel better when the sun is shinning. It's sunny but cold here today. Blessings.

Mornin' Terry...when I was at work yesterday I heard something on the radio about this being the most depressing day of the year, but didn't hear what the reason was. I think it's silly saying it's because of all our bills coming in. I have bills coming at me all year long, doesn't make much difference to me, haha.
I know the weather and sunshine have alot to do with how people feel in the winter time. That much I do believe in, when there is no sunshine, you get kind of depressed and everything seems very dismal. BUT!, Spring is right around the corner, right??????...yea!

I read that in our local daily paper too, they made a big fuss about it and a big page spread! Anything to fill up space! January 21st is no different from January 22nd or 20th, in actual fact I find 6th January the worst the twelfth night when all the decorations have to come down and all the Christmas festivities are put away for another year. However the weather was appalling today heavy winds and rain, poor Wolfie's fur got wet just going to the shops and back! I had good news today about my counseling so I have to say January 21st was good for me! But you're right it's just a fallacy.

I dont feel depressed today.. but then again i didn't put anything on credit cards either cause i dont have one if i can't afford it then i shouldnt be buying it! I hvae heard this before though, there was some giant calculation with mathmatical equations and everything going on in it. It was last year i heard it, i thought it was as silly as you do. No one day can be more depressing then the other just cause the date! Having suffered from depression before, I know, you can't be depressed one day and just not the next!! Your either depressed or your not!

I know that Seasonal Affect Disorder is real. I have it! When there is less daylight and even less son my mood suffers. But today where we are the sun shone most of the day. It was really cold out, but the sunlight in the house was lovely.
And my bills have been coming in all month!!!!

I read an article about this yesterday. The date of January 21st was figured out by some mathematical formula. I don't buy it either. In fact, today is a great day because my kids and hubby all have off today. But if today is supposed to be the most depressing day, then it can only go uphill tomorrow! lol

I think that in my home country we have all had enough of the rainy cold days and expensive winter bills. Yes, the weather is so lousy, the great amount of rain has resulted in many rivers flooding. I much prefer the summer when we have warm or hot days. I am so looking forward to the spring when pretty flowers are about and the evenings become lighter. Then when summer is here I love the gorgeous weather and get disappointed when it all ends. June 21st is mid summer's eve, a fantastic warm and light day. So my least favorite month is January because it is so cold. It is my dog Magic's birthday today. She is two years old. I am happy for that reason but agree that January is a depressing month.

That's nonsense...like who declared January 21 to be the most depressing..some "expert"--besides I already got most of my bills in about a week ago for next month, so no surprises..Actually I was quite busy today....finished an article for AC, and even started taking down a few Christmas decorations down..no, not the tree yet.
Yup, it's freezing here too, but was nice and sunny. My energy level is getting a little better since my cold from hell is starting to get just a tad better...how's hubby doing? Is he better..how about you? Still eating soups...if I eat anymore chicken soup I'll turn into a chicken. On a whim though I took out the beef cubes I had frozen in the freezer and made nice beef stew and made homemade dumplings..have a lot leftover....want some? :)

While I don't believe in this and even if I did, it is something that can be avoided, both my husband and daughter are still in bed and it is 1:16 PM..
Though it is usual for them both to sleep in, my husband is usually up by at least 10 or 11 on a day off. but my daughter has slept in until 4 because she would be up late, very much a night owl..lol

Terry, are you my friend that doesn't like thunderstorms? If so, no wonder you would get depressed on a cloudy day.Me on the other hand, I love cloudy days.I can see the t.v. better, my living room gets all the sun, it faces west. And my apartment feels more cozy on a cloudy day.

Well I don't charge things so I have no bills coming from the holidays. I do get a bit depressed when there is no sun but if it's cold but the sun is out I'm ok :)
It really was cold today, in my school we missed keeping the kids indoors for recess by only 2 degrees celsius and that says a lot :)
Do I believe that this is the most depressing day? I'm not sure. But I do believe that winter is sometimes a bit more depressing because there are many days that are gray and dark. For me the sun is very important, a sunny day can make things look so much brighter to me :):)

well it did not work out to be so this year - yes, the weather was lousy, but a little warmer than yesterday so yay.... and as far as the bills pouring in, it was a federal holiday and no mail arrived on this day anyhow.... now tomorrow (22nd) may be a different story!

Terry, I see you are back. You were on my friends list for a long time and suddenly you were gone. Did you delete me or did mylot suspend you for awhile? In the last discussions we talked you were having a problem with mylot and you thought you might get suspended, or something like that. I just know you seemed to disappear and I now see you are back and I have requested your friendship again. I hope you accept.
I never knew this about January 21st being a depressing day. I know it's past that day and I don't think I was depressed or anything that day. So I think it's just what you believe as to waht kind of day you are having.

As for me, the most depressing day is December 22-nd, when it is Winter solstice, the shortest and the darkest day of the year. But being depressed is NOT a rule, we might feel that we don't have enough energy any Winter day.

Here's Time Magazine article about the same question. Time says that depression in the US peaks in mid-November.
Personally, I think both the Time article and the person who declared today the most depressing have used flawed methods to come up with their answers!
