I will never forget what happened to me and three of my pledge brothers back in 1983. This was the year that I began my second year in college at The American University and I pledged the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. One of the pledge nights, we were "kidnapped" and blindfolded and put into different fraternity brothers cars. We were driven around town for a while and as I lay in the back seat of one of the brother's cars, I did what I could to get my bearings. It did not work because they continued to drive in circles until finally dropping us off somewhere in the boonies in Maryland. What was neat, as we continued to walk and attempt to find our way back to Washington, D.C., we were able to see the Washington Monument and other familiar landmarks. However, what happened was that we were walking away from them! Oh my. We found out later that instead of being only 10 minutes away from the nations capital, we ended up over an hour away! That was bad. We ended up sleeping outside a volunteer fire department in Hyattsville, MD, then going into a small cafe in the morning and finding out which bus would get us back to D.C. Later that morning, after thawing out, we found out that we broke all records of a pledge class as it took us more than 10 hours to find our way back to our school.

I ALWAYS get lost everytime I drive to somewhere new. I have a really bad sense of direction. Even with a map, I have to stop every couple of minutes and check whether I'm going the right way!! I've got a GPS in the car now...that helps a bit!

Truthfully, yes, I have gotten lost before. Majorly lost. I was 17, and not used to driving long distances. I ended up getting on the wrong side of the interstate and eventually ended up in a neighboring state. Go ahead and laugh, LOL. I finally noticed and just turned around and went back. I was scared I wouldn't be able to know where to go, but God had mercy on me and I found my way back home. : )
