Do you think that we should give clothes for the pets to wear?

Maybe people think that pets shall wear clothes. I think they think they will look cute. In fact I don't think pets like wearing it. Animals are not willing to wear anything. They are already fine with their hair.

Hi youless! I really don't have my pets wear some cute clothes on a regular basis..however, I have nothing against it. i just don't know if pets really like wearing them though. Anyway, I have one piece of clothing for my pet which I bought once and have him wear it because I took some pictures of him. But it was only once and I think he did had fun though because he loves the attention he was getting during his photo shoot but that was a long time ago when he was still a puppy. haha.. take care and have a nice day!

In fact my mom made a clothes for my dog in the past. And he didn't like it at all. Perhaps he thought he looked stupid when he had clothes on:)

Actually you are wrong in that youless. I used to raise miniature chihuahuas and they really suffered when it got cold and I live in FL. We always had little shirts and sweaters for them. They would stick their little heads right in for you because they were cold and they knew that the sweaters would keep them warm. Each of them had their own blankets too. I had one little female that would steal them all and pile them on her bed space and wiggle under all of them to stay warm. Yes the little sweaters are cute, but for some dogs they are also necessary. Shalom~Adoniah

Chihuahuas were bred in very warm climates and were not meant to live where it got below 70 degrees. Shalom

Chihuahuas do shiver when they're cold, but they also shiver for just about any other reason they can think of. (Excitement, nervousness, wariness...whatever.) Also, hypoglycemia is a common issue in chihuahuas and one of its "side effects" is being chilled...

My dogs are pretty much indoor dogs and when the temperature gets down to single digits or sub zero temps on the Fahrenheit scale, they can definitely do with a sweater or coat of some sort. I wish we had trained them as puppy to wear boots, when they salt the roads, it is very painful for them to walk and the salt hurts their feet.

Hm... its cute to see pets wear clothes. But i never have idea to give clothes to my dogs and cats... I think its better without any clothes, they can walk and move freely... And especially if the pee and popo, i just afraid the clothes will smell terrible. Clothes for pets also not cheap!

listen nothing is wrong with what you want your dog to wear if you want your dog to wear someting then it's alright as long as he/she is comfortable in whatever he/she is wearing you can normally tell whether or not a person really loves their dog by their doing this and all you have to do is make sure the dog is comfortable and to treat your dog as a human. remember you dont like the smell of used clothes and neither does your dog and make sure that his/her fur is the way it would be if he/she didnt have any clothes on and make sure that the clothes fit properly not too tight or loose

Hello, Youless! Well, they do get cute when they are wearing clothes. However, I don't think they should. They already have their own protection against the cold, their fur. Why should we dress them up? Respectfully.

Whn my shih tzu male has his hair cut short he is very cold without his jacket on or sweat shirt..but when his hair is long..then he does not need this .. Reggie is our male shih tzu and he is four years old..he does not wear this inside but we live in an extreme cold climate..in Michigan, USA it is winter now and the shih tzu is only 12 pounds and without hair they are not like the cold cold winter winds..but he just wears this to go out for the bathroom break..so he can empty himself.. it is up to the owner..as you follow the golden rule..the one with the gold rules.

I think that for smaller dogs and for short hair dogs that they need a coat, but for some of the owners, they go way TOO far for the amount that they spend on dressing thier pets. And I don't think some of the pets like to be dressed up either. I mean, come on, someone paying $100 or more for the clothes. But I guess if you can afford it, that is fine.

That's right. But maybe the pets prefer to have USD100 food than clothes, who knows?

if you are a good sewing person or such, then you can likely put together some nice outfits if needed in the cold. I tried to make a warm sweater for my cat once (wish he was still with us), but he went biserk, and ran backward, bumped into things trying to pry it off! ;o) So, we gave up. But especially for dogs in the cold weather, it is needed, I'd think. Especially if they have short hair.

My family's shih tzu loves getting clothes on before he goes for a walk out in the cold. We keep his hair cut really short so he doesn't have that warmth. He lays right on his back while we snap him up in his little winter jacket. I think he knows it keeps him warm.

Well I have 4 dogs. Only 1 of mine wears any clothes. He usually wears his coat when he goes outside, because it is winter and VERY cold now. This is his choice.

One of the beauty of life is adaptability. I think every individual... human or animal have their ability to adapt to certain situation or environment. I learned from news that, people who live in cold places have thicker skin and those you just imgrate there will develop the same. I think with animals it's also true. Clothing animals looks silly too... very Paris Hilton-ish

agree with you dear that pets already have their hairs to cover up their skin and made them feeling comfortable. i am not sure that giving clothes to wear for our pets is necessary and made our pets feeling comfortable with that. but its okay if dressing them in certain occasion as like pet competition, pet festival or similiar with that. or dressing them when its needed as like very cold weather or in ilness condition. well, thats only my own opinion since i think my pet no need to wear any clothes except her own hairs in her skin. but absolutely, i would like to make sure that her hair always clean enough everyday caused she always sleeping with me in my bed ;)

I feel that it is not necessary to provide clothes for our pets as this will make them feel unnatural and uneasy. Unless the weather is extremely cold then I would consider to give them some clothes to keep their bodies warm.

Some pets actually HAVE to wear clothing, at least outside, in the winter. For instance, greyhounds. They are so thin, and they have so little fur, that when they go outside in the winter, they could easily freeze and get frostbite! It would be like you or me going outside butt-naked in 10 degree weather! So greyhounds have to wear coats in the winter. Many smaller, shivery dogs also do. Other dogs, with thicker fur, don't really need clothes, because their fur keeps them warm enough!

I think it depends whether the pets like it or not. Some of them are afraid of cold and they know that clothes can help them keep warm, but I saw a dog, once it got clothes on, it would stay still, seems like it couldn't move, not even one little step. So it really depends.

I agree with you! I don't think animals are our accessories and I think they are just fine the way they are. Sometimes, I imagine that if we could communicate with the animals, maybe they would voice out their opinions on the clothes which are given to them. That would be interesting.

You are right. I think pets will have many complaints if they can talk to us. It seems human beings just like force their wills to animals.

Clothes are one thing that spererates us from th rest of the animals, if we start letting them dress like us then we'll be no better off then they are.
