My smallest child does this sometimes...
She would rinse her mouth with her drink... and then swallow it.
I really hate it when she does that - and would always caution her not to do it.. but since when does a 4-year old would do as she is asked?=(
My husband says he finds nothing wrong with it..
But i feel that if you need to rinse your mouth.. go do it at the sink and spit it out.. i mean you rinse your mouth to get rid of whatever particles and whatnots - to get rid of the distasteful, uncomfortable feeling in your mouth.. so.. why would you want to swallow it... go spit it out.
And guess what... recently... the guy who sits next to me at the office... did the exact same thing!!
He sipped his drink.. then, i could hear him rinse his mouth.. and then... he swallowed the whole thing...
I completely froze!.. execused myself to the toilet, and had to rinse my mouth...
Is this - rinse and swallow - normal??
Am i the wierd one...??

I haven't come across any adult who does it....that would really gross me out!
But my 7 year old son does it sometimes..I give him a glare and let it go...and he usually doesn't do it often. It irritates me, but if I tried to argue with him on it, he might continue doing it and might turn into a habit. Since it's only once in a while, I just give him the look and he knows what it means.
I've never seen another child do it either....but my son doesn't do it when other people are around...so maybe that's why I never noticed other kids do it either.

uuuughhh ewwwww! that is just flat out disgusting! I knew someone that did that. They were eating spaghetti and a salad. something got stuck I guess or just had their mouth fool - they were rinsing their mouth with coca cola and swallowed whatever was in there and i'm like - you got to be kidding me!
I mean that's why they sale mouthwash in Walmart or any other store. Listerine got to have it! But to rinse with your own drink - is worst than a slob on the couch. And no that's not normal either. I wouldn't even go as far to do that. The closest I'd do is rinse with a bottle of water and then spit it out.

Well, when I started reading I was going to say kids are weird and do stuff like that all the time but your coworker is another story. I'm sure your daughter will grow out of it. The more you make an issue of it though, the more she will do it. Kids think grossing others out is terribly funny. In your daughter's mind whatever went in her mouth in the first place was food and she doesn't see anything wrong with using her drink to make sure her food gets to it's proper destination. Have you ever asked her why she does it?
