This is a really great discussion because it really made me think. I don't believe there are any times when it's ok to lie; however, there are times when it seems like "the easy way out," so to speak, to tell a "little white lie." I don't think it's a matter of whether or not a person is a good lier. You can be good at telling a lie and it will still backfire on you! Pretty much every time I've lied, it has backfired on me. I'm trying to think of one situation in particular where this happened. Ok, I remember when I was younger I hated taking baths. I absolutely despised them! I think I was about 4 or 5 at the time. My mom always had to stay right there with me and either bathe me herself or make sure I did so myself. It's not that I didn't like being clean, but I hated getting wet if I wasn't going swimming or having fun. Taking a bath was just not my idea of fun. Anyway, I remember a time when my mom had given me strict instructions to take a bath first thing the next morning because when I was done and everyone was ready, we were going to the waterpark. I was so excited. I got up the next morning, ran the bath water for a while, and sure enough, I put the clean clothes on without bathing. I probably could figure it out now, but I just didn't understand how my mom could tell that I didn't actually take a bath! But she knew. And as a result, we didn't go to the waterpark after all. That was a bad day for me, but a very valuable lesson. Once again, great discussion!

Thanks JJ4Ever - Please tell me that your attitude towards baths has changed (lol)!!! I guess I could be what you call a very bad lier, I mean I think I really suck at it. My siblings seemed to have it down to a science, but I would always get caught. The one time I felt I told a pretty good one backfired on me was when I told a friend that I could not stand her boyfriend ... well, I think you know where that story is going . . . YES, BACKFIRE BIG TIME!!!

I was a lot like you when I was a kid. Obviously, I was also a bad liar too. And to tell you the truth, my attitude toward baths hasn't changed. (LOL) Fortunately, I love showers. I don't like baths because showers are quicker and when I'd be sitting in the bath, it'd make me wonder how much cleaner I could get with all of the water I was bathing in staying all in one place. Thanks for your comment. I liked this discussion a lot.

i'm 36 years old and keeping in view my life experience, i understand that if a lie can do good then that lie is good not evil, and if a truth can destroy than that truth is evil.
yes indeed i told lie, who doesn't? and yes it backfired.
i must say here that lie is the worst sin. moreover lying is the root cause of every sin.
to hide a lie one keeps on telling lies and it is thus a chain reaction.
