Here is a news story worthy to be called the moder time Romeo and Juliet... it is about a muslim couple who are being forced to annulment by the woman's relatives because they say that she married beneath her status..
The woman is deeply in love with her husband and they already have two children...she now lives in an orphanage with her son... waiting for the King of Saudi to intervene...
The family is kept apart by the Saudi Police because according to the strict Saudi segregation law... they cannot live together under one roof...how unfair is this?... the relative are the ones who should go to jail for destroying a once happy family...
As a once teacher of history...i have great respect for the culture of other... but situations like this make me want to cry and ask the Higher Power why such things are happening...

This story speak for itself. We have 2008, but those people are acting like 2000 BC....
Religion can make people blind. I can not believe that family can be that brutal. How about woman rights?
Are we really in New Century?
I have respect for culture only if they don't have discrimination law and are fair for woman.
In this case, sorry, I don't have respect for this culture.

There is actually an advocate trying to fight for more right to be granted for women of this country... i for one agree that their ways are no longer applicable to time that we are in now... so i guess the fate of this family lies in the hand of their King... who i hope will see pass the cultural boundaries of his people...thanks for the response...

Yes, the whole idea of status is troubling to me. I believe that one's status is determined from one's actions, not from an accident of birth. Some cultures are out of control because there are no rules anymore and then others have too many rules and especially too many unreasonable rules. Always it is the children who suffer most.

In school... were thought to be more tolerant or to give our highest respect for the culture of others... but how can we if such injustice like this is happening... i believe that like people... culture should also evolve with time... those that are no longer applicable should be replace or they should just stay in books to be studied by the current generation... thanks for the response...

Wow, this is absolutely crazy! I would die if my family stepped in and took away my love! I don't understand of how countries that are to be considered of poverty still rank one another as being to "low" to be loved! This is an awkward custom, and where was the family before the marriage and kid stage. I know thier religion is different, but there has to be somewhere before that the parents or anyone is allowed to step in and object before the vows are taken!! Amazing!

I hate people who are killjoys. If I were them,I'll "kill"those killjoys first before they do that!

The End does not Justify the Means... so killing them or even thinking of killing them is not a nice solution for the problem... the relatives are not killjoys but people who strictly adhere to their customs and traditions...thanks for the response...

Just one of the many reasons I am glad I live in a country where I am free to love and marry who I want to. Too bad our nation still discriminates against gay couples. I'm straight, but I think everyone should be entitled to the benefits of marriage.
