Hi We are moving to new place and made some plans for our cat. We know that the moving to a new place can be very stressful to our pet so we got this "feliway" named product from a drugstore. There are feromones in the feliway spray which makes the cat feel more confortable and safe. The product is a synthetic feromone which is similar to a cat face feromones. One place where it can be used is the cat carrying box and we got also this plug device for the new place which will be installed into electric socket. The device will spread slowly feromones into the room air and the maximum feromone effect level will be reached in 48 hours. Only that we cannot install the device beforehand but it helps that we have the feromone spray. Also we have decided to spray it to the car seat where the carry case is placed. This should be done 2 times referring to the "feliway" instructions. Any other ideas to relief cats stress when moving to new house?

That is really good to know and remember, digitalbeat. We just moved into a new house not too long ago, it is about a half hour from our old house and our cat HATES going in the car. She is 13 (this June)and has ALWAYS been like that, no matter how we tried to get her used to the car when she was younger. Nowadays, we have pretty much given up and only take her our about once a year to visit the vet, or whenever necessary. When we moved, our vet gave us a bottle of 10 mg acepromazine, that worked very well in relaxing her for the drive. When we arrived at our new home, we put her in one room with water, food and litter box and she literally slept for 2 days straight due to all her anxiety of new house, etc as the one pill we gave her was only a VERY MILD sedative and at 12 yrs old, yep she did not cope well with the move and came down with a bad case of fleas right after the move (previous homeowners had cats with fleas that they graciously passed along) Ewww!

yes the feromone spray is very good when making veterinary visits. ;) We also thought when entering the new place the first thing is to find a comfortable room for our cat. Perhaps a separate little room like a bathroom where the litter box will be kept.

Keep your cat in one room for a while. If you can, shut them in a bathroom or other small room at your old place while you move everything out. Get all the stuff settled in your new place before you bring the cat in and then, again, keep it confined to a small place so it can get used to that place before it starts to access the rest of the house. Preferably in the area where the cat box is going to reside permanately.
