Read, read, read! This actually helps a lot so that you'll be able to a have a feel of how others write as well as have ideas as to how to approach writing--of course it is still best that you develop your own style of writing-- Also just keep on writing, and joining online community writing sites is also a plus factor, since when you post your writings, you can have your work critiqued & from there, you can take these into consideration so you can improve more on your writing as well as get more ideas. Do go to this great writing community--http://www.onestopwriteshop.com I'm a member there & it has really helped me a lot in my writing, since they also offer online classes there & different forums...hope to see you there! Great for you for planning to write!

It's a good idea to start with your audience.Who are you hoping will read your work? Concentrate then on what will keep that particular group interested.I hope I helped :) Oh and also I like to practice using words I haven't used before,it helps to broaden my vocabulary.GL!!

When you start writing, stick with what you know. Seriously. Once you have a good handle on your own particular writing style, then you can branch out to topics beyond your own experiences. Good luck!

I have been writing now for years and it's the one thing i have that no one can take from me. Just be you. Write down whatever comes to mind even if it sounds silly at the time. You can't ever go wrong with your originality. I get a lot of my ideas from my children because they have such great imagination that even we can't capture anymore. I write because i believe i have a story to tell. Even if you don't think your story is good, trust me, there are people who will.

I started writing by keeping a journal as part of a college English course. I found that keeping the journal helped me to think things through a lot more efficiently. Whenever I had a problem, I would just start writing about it. Writing helps to organize my thoughts on a single issue, or multiple issues at once if my mind is racing. A couple of of my college professors liked the things I wrote, and told me that I should try to take my writing to the next level. So, that is the point I am at in my life right now. I am trying to find a way to get paid for the things I write. I joined MyLot last night because a friend suggested it to me. I am hoping this is a good place to start. So, just write whatever you are thinking. I get a lot of my topics from the news. I am in Banking, so a lot of my writings here will be money or business related. Just write about whatever topics interest you. Writing every day will help to eliminate the "writer's block" that causes new writers so many problems, meaning that they want to write about something, but not being able to get the thoughts to come out onto the paper. Keeping at it will make something happen for you. If I can help you, let me know...Good luck!

You write and write as much as you want. Take ideas from anything. Books you've read, stories you've heard, music that you've listened, thoughts that ran through your head. Almost anything can be a source for your imagination to start running and get yourself into writing. You just write until you think you could not write anything related to what you started (okay, that's a bit too much but you get what I mean, right?). After that, you now edit your work. In case you have supportive friends and you respect their opinions, while they are frank and honest with you, they could also do peer-editing for you. Then, after a few articles or manuscripts, its either you or your friends would figure which genre you are more stable with. Themes and so on. Who knows, you might be good at romance and even better with comedy? Thriller and mysteries are quite interesting too. Oh yeah, don't plan, write away ^_^ Some of the spontaneous ideas are the best ones to write.
