Kids are too expensive. The bottom line, life is expensive overall!!! I think that is just what it comes down to, We were thinking of having another one. We have 3 but then we got to thinking about how much it cost and we don't have a house yet so we want to atart planning for that and then when college starts watch out!!!But that is just me. It also costs a lot more to feed kids, have you seen the canadian food guide? lol

Oh yes Food here in Australia has gotton really expensive, espically fruite and Veg. We have just started growing our own Vegs. to save a little money at the check-out. I also try to cook as much as I can insted of buying cookies and things it's cheaper to make them and you know what goes in them too.

Fruit and veggies here are really expensive as well, we grow some here bt it is hard. We live in the city and don't own our home and not alot of land is around it so we can't make a large garden, wish i could though. Thats how I was raised, fresh home grown goodness.

Combined we have 8 children...2 were his, 3 were mine and 3 are ours together. Obviosly I can't say why people only choose to have 3 or less lol. One of my sisters has 3 children and may have had one more if not for the fact that the last two were concieved using fertility treatments because she doesn't ovulate on her own anymore. My other sister only has one and doesn't want anymore. She and her husband had already been together for 15 years before deciding to have that one child. If things were different for me I would have wanted to have one more but it didn't work out that way and maybe never will. Luckily I'm still young enough that even 10 years down the road there's a chance I could have the opportunity for another...except at that point I would probably want 2 in quick succession because at that time my youngest would be 11 and I wouldn't want the "new child" to be raised like an only because of the big age difference.

As someone else said, kids are expensive. I have never wanted a ton of children. I think the most I would want is 4, but I would be satisfied with 2 or 3.

most countries now have economic problems and having so much kids to feed is one big obligation to make.with the prices up and salaries down an average earner cant support more mouths to feed so thats the reason why most families chose to have only few kids.i dont i have 5 kids and looking to have some more inthe near future because for me kids are my wealth because they make me feel good everytime i go home and see them happy.although its a very huge task to support them i can still make the ends meet and even have some spare for leisure.

I have 5 kids too and would love to have more, but it doesn't look like that will be happening. Oh well, I'll just be happy with what I've got.

I guess what I've heard about British men isn't true (6-10 children stats). LOL. My sister had 7 children and I had 1. I'm glad to have had 1 because I was a single mother most of her growing up years. I think in America the average is 2.5. I don't want any more children, Kylie :) but my daughter isn't going to have children, so I'll never be a grandma. Would you let me adopt your children as my cybergrandchildren?

I think there are two main reasons why people do not have that many kids anymore. The first reason is the cost of living. Everything is so expensive ever tried to pay daycare on 5 kids. Another thing is that lifestyles have changed. Most women work now instead of staying home with the kids. This all goes back to expense. When women stayed home with the kids it isn't as much to feed them but when you have to pay for someone to watch them and that sort of thing it really adds up and quick.

Oh you do have a really good point day care is really expensive here too,I think it like $30 a day per child. I am lucky in that I work from home making things and selling them (not that I make a living but it dose help out with the food cost).

Daycare is outrageous. I am lucky a friend of ours watches my daughter for $40/wk. Which is unheard of at a regular daycare it would be about $90/wk. So times that by 5 kids and you have a BIG LUMP OF CHANGE. Not to mention new borns are extra and if you pick them up late its usually like a few dollars a minute.

Nowadays it is not easy to raise a child as we have to spend lots of money especially for his education. Most of the modern mom are working women and couldn’t spend much time to take good care of their children. They have to spend extra money for the babysitter who takes care of the child. Considering these, definitely they could cut down expenses by having lesser children.

I stopped at three, for one thing the expense of raising children is much higher now, even compared to when I had my children. Another reason was I physically couldn't handle another pregnancy and my doctor told me I really shouldn't have any more. I do know several people who have lots of children, one couple I know has seven and another has six, which I think is wonderful as long as they are loved and wanted and well cared for.

Not everyone wants or needs a big family anymore. Kids cost money. They take time. With most families requiring 2 incomes just to afford the bare minimum of necessities, not a lot of people have the time or energy to afford or spend quality time with more than that. Back in the days, a large family was necessary for the house to run properly. The boys did the outside work such as chopping wood or farm work and the girls did all of the inside duties such as laundry or cooking/cleaning. The more kids you had, the less help you had to hire out. Boys were very sought after as they were considered "stronger" and could handle the duties on a typical farm with the animals and the farm chores. Personally I dont want any kids, but that's not to say that the next person should not have 14 kids. I only get pissed off when someone who has kids gets on public welfare assistance because they couldn't afford it. That's what pisses me off that I have to pay for their ignorance and massive breeding.
