Extreme Back Pain Pt. 2

I have to admit that I am a little worried about my health right now. I went to see the doctor today, thinking that I was going to whine about a bad back and maybe get some nice furniture, paid for by my insurance. When I sat down to talk to him, he was figuratively scratching his head. He was looking at my last blood test and he says that he can not figure out what is wrong with me. He says, although I look healthy, my test results tell a different story. He recently had blood and urine samples taken and everything came back fine. But my potassium and protein levels are low. He just increased my potassium tablets from twice a day, to three times a day, but it has not helped. My previous doctor could not understand it either. My previous doctor also gave me Folic Acid for malnutrition. I may look like a lot of things, but malnurtured is not one of them. I am a over healthy woman, but something is definitely wrong with me. So I suggested that he check my Thyroid levels. I had to have a Subtotal Thyroidectomy in 2003, due to a large tumor on my Thyroid. At first he said that the Thyroid could not be related to this, but later he agreed to have a tested. So I will be having another blood test in the morning. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I have been trying to do research online. But so far, all I have come up with is Cushing's Syndrome. They say that it is indeed hard to diagnose. I am very concerned.

Oh wow, I hope it turns out not to be serious, keep us posted on what is happening with you. I think I have some thyroid problems, but I have been putting off going to the doc. I don't have any insurance or money to go to the doc. I will keep you in my prayers, take care.

He acted as if it was all tied together. I certainly wasn't ready to hear what he had to say. My other doctor had told me the same things, but he acted like it was no big deal. This doctor seems more determined to find out what is going on. I thank God for leading me to change doctors when I did. Thank you, as always for your concern and preayers and hugs, he, he.

Rozie is there any kidney failure in the family? Has the doctor done an ultra sound of your kidnesy? I also want to say just because a woman is overweight does not mean they are healthy. Being healthy means you are getting all the right amounts of vitamins from the foods you eat. It could be from a bad diet or it could be from an abosrption problem some where in your digestive track. I ask you about your kidneys because of your labs being off and your protein and potassium being off. You can also have blood in your urine with kidney problems. I am not a doctor just an old nurse so what do I know. Good luck and I have said a prayer for you. Your friend

My diet is very good. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. I drink plenty of water. My aunt had a kidney removed do to a tumor that was cancerous recently. I do not know about my father's side of the family, he left when I was a small child. My sister's and I do not know much, but we recently found out that he had Epilepsy. I had saw something about the Kidneys when I was doing research earlier, but I do not understand. If it could be my kidneys, why don't they just do the ultra sound and find out. I think I was actually reading about kidney stones earlier. So you don't believe it has anything to do with my Thyroid? I have had blood in my urine in the past, but they said it was due to a cervical polyp. I have hard two big ones removed so far. I will do research on the things you mentioned. As always, thank you so much for your professional opinion.

I have a friend who had Cushing's Disease several years ago and she was just "lucky" it was diagnosed. If it weren't for a lab technician at the hospital running a test without authorization from the doctor on a hunch who knows what may have happened. So, you're right, it is hard to diagnose and it's often missed when they don't know what they're looking for. I'd definitely say something to the doctor. I sure hope everything works out for you and that there's nothing seriously wrong with you. Hugs and prayers! Annie

Cushing's Disease covers more of my symptoms than anything else. I will definitely bring it up to the doctor next week. Thank you so much for responding. It has helped a lot.

I'm no doctor but it does sound rather puzzlng. Does your insurance permit you to see a different dr. for a 2nd opinion? Good luck with finding a correct diagnosis and effective treatment. About being very concerned. I think its human nature to be concerned but you may be jumping to conclusions. Of course that's very human too. lol
