My friend told me that peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking. Oh my gosh I did not know that; did you? I will have to pay attention to this the next time I buy peppers. Did anyone know this before?

I did not know this before, but I use peppers both for eating and cooking and do not see the necessity of cutting up one pepper for snack and another pepper for cooking unless the peppers were different colors. They all get mixed up together and if I had to keep them separate, the cooking stuff would have to be put in a different colored container or bag than the eating stuff, and they would have to be labeled. So it seems a bother to do this, but it is interesting to know the next time I entertain and want to know what to put in the stew and what to put on the salad plate.

I know I never thought I noticed a difference either until my friend told me about peoppers. Then it dawn on me that could be the reason sometimes I enjoy eating them raw sometimes more then other times. Could be I don't like it so much when they should be used for cooking instead of eating raw. What do you think?

It could be why I notice sometimes that when I cook them they are firmer then other times. I am always happy when I fnd a good batch of peppers for cooking. Like stir fry for instance. It is not when they stay a bit firmer. Sometimes I notice they are way to soft even if I try not to over cook them. Is it possible that these are the eating peppers? I will have to pay better attention to this.

I wouldn't eat peppers during my younger years. Now I can not figure out why. They are like eating candy they taste so good.

I had never heard that before, and I even had a garden where we grew peppers (bell, sweet, and jalapeno) when I was younger.

I grew them before to. I dont' remember reading anyhing about it on the seed packet. I also bought small starter plants from a nursery I don't recall seeing any signs saying these are better for cooking and these for eating.
