sickness and in health

no, im not married..its just that it makes me think, do marriage really bonds two people that they will be on each others arms in sickness and in health? i got this question because, first i was sick for 3 months..and guess who supported me all the way? from being in the hospital where i cant even help myself to stand up, or to feed myself to recuperating...my partner..i dare say my partner because, you see, im not married...but my partner really stand to any marriage bonds--in sickness and in health, till death do us part..where most marriages fail.. so anybody, whats your views on marriage?
