on line dating site relationships - do they work?

...my sister met her husband 'online' at a local dating website. As her big sister, of course I told her to only meet in public and all, for quite awhile, but what did she do? she makes a date to meet him at a "park and ride" parking lot, jumped in his truck and they went to his house where he took care of his ailing (dying it turns out) father. (I found this out later!) But it worked out.. he wasn't a predator/killer/ax murderer.. but a very nice guy. She'd been talking on the phone with him for a couple of months. And now they are very happy! I also have a cousin who is also happily married to someone she met on the world wide web... Though I don't know the details of their meeting, etc. - so I think yes, it can definitely work out, but people are wise to take common sense precautions.. check out the name and person with their local authorities to make sure you're dealing with a person who is who they say they are! And make sure the person knows that everyone you know, knows their name and address, etc! As it is documented that many people go missing these days, many with questionable internet contacts...
