How Do You Choose and Apply Your Screen Name?

This discussion has been spurred by another discussion I recently started. Whilst debating people's birthstones and assigned gemstones, my mind started wandering to screen names.
In explanation, I have one screen name in a games site, which contains my birth sign, Libra. It is LibranAngel, and I was wondering why I might have used the name at the time. Most of my other names are to do with flowers, the Moon and my beliefs. For instance, I have Moonchild, LoveInTheMist (which is a flower) and other names like the one I use here, which are related to my beliefs. My Avatar is of a Raven Moon, a Warrior Woman and a Raven, hence the name Darkwing, because of the Raven's colour and the fact that it is on the wing, on the Avatar.
So... I was wondering how others choose their Screen Names and whether there is any particular relevance, like their Star Sign within that name. I do realise that a lot of people use their real names incorporated with their status, or other things, and some use their birth dates.
Does anybody wish to elaborate on how they came to choose and apply their particular screen names? I'm not being personal, but I tend to float off on tangents like this from time to time, as many of my friends will tell you! :)

Hehe..this is a no brainer actually. I've only had my own computer for just about a year, prior to that I was using the library computers. Well anytime I came up on a site where I needed a user name, I wanted one that I would easily remember...and bingo thought of using Pyewacket which is the name of my black cat..I've been using it or variations of the spelling ever since...and I do admit I have to get inventive over the spelling as I discovered Pyewacket seems to be a very commonly used user name...so sometimes I'm Pyewackete, pyewackette, pyewackat and so forth

Hmmm, it intrigues me as to where the name comes from, my friend. I did actually see a website online today under the name of Pyewacket.com and thought it might be yours, but no... it was a guy! Quite an interesting website though. lol.
Pyewackette sounds quite feminine, I think! :) So tell me, where does it come from, other than one of your cats is called by the name?
Brightest Blessings.

A lot of people remember the name Pyewacket as the cat in the old movie Bell,Book and Candle with Kim Novak, Jimmy Stewart, Elsa Lanchester and Jack Lemmon...all but Jimmy Stewart's character were witches..and the cat was a Siamese cat. But the name Pyewacket is actually an old one from medieval England and was always associated with black cat familiars of witches..hehhe--so suits me to a tee...no?

Thank you for the explanation, my friend. I'm very interested in the Natives and their ways, as they are a part of our ancient history. I have a book here that a Canadian Native friend bought me, because she said it reminded her of me. It's written by a Native woman who now runs a women's only circle. I get wrapped in it sometimes. It's so full of information, both Native and other pagan beliefs.
Brightest Blessings. xx

Hi Darkwing! That is interesting! I have chosen faith210 to remind me to always hang on to my faith and 210 is because I was born on february 10. I have 2 other screen names which is creative native for my etsy user name because my hubby created an avatar which looks like a native from my homeland thus I just chose to use the said user name and another one is Felicity which means great happiness and that is one of the things I really wanted in my life. Take care and have a nice day! :)

I'm afraid my screen name's origins are a lot less imaginitive or meaningful than yours are. A few years ago I had to choose a screen name for another site and as I was struggling to think of something that I would remember I looked round the room and a pair of my shoes were lying on the floor, high-heeled as all my shoes are! Hence the name Stiletto and that's what I've used ever since. I use it more or less everywhere, sometimes with 8, 10 or 61 after it because that's my birthdate.

Good enough reason, but lucky it was your shoes you spotted, and not an item of underwear! ha ha ha
I like your screen name. It is quite difficult to think of one which is different, isn't it? There are a few with same names but different numbers and it gets confusing at times.
Brightest Blessings.

My screen name comes from my magikal name. Soror is sister is latin and Ravn is a combination of the Hebrew letters, resh, aleph, vau, and nun. It all adds to to equal magician!

Oh wow... great reasoning. I would never have guessed at that one... I would have assumed that ravn, was short for raven. It just goes to show that this exercise is a worthy one, as you get to learn all sorts of things... I would never have thought of Hebrew letters. :)
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input.

Mine is pretty straight forward :)
I'm gnostic in my beliefs and I'm a Goddess :)
One day I thought that'd make a great name Gnostic Goddess and I used it for an old email account I had. Then I used it for ebay and well it just snowballed LOL. That's my name everywhere except on weeworld - and I'm thinking of canceling my account there and reopening it with that name LOL.

As raijin is my user name, I used it here because it's from one of my favorite PS1 RPG game back then. Though he's one of the bad guys, I just like the sound of his name!;) My avatar was also from that game as well, just to let you know.. Hehe!
I have another username that I use on some social sites, it's thor_mentor which came from the word tormentor. I used it because I like words that has two or more meanings, thor can be refered to as a name and mentor as which means a teacher. Well, it's obvious what a tormentor means so I guess it needs no further explanation!;)

Yes, Thor, the son of Odin, is the red-haired and bearded God of Thunder, in Norse beliefs. He was a much revered God of the Germanic tribes to over a thousand years later during the last bastions of Germanic paganism in the late Viking Age. He is the God of Thunder and his weapon is his symbol, "Thor's Hammer".

I only have 2 screen names Mummymo and my real name! I choose my name first and my avatar to match - I guess I chose Mummymo as my children are the most important thing in my life so Mummy is my main role and mo is the first 2 letters of my name and what some people call me, my avatar is the ultrasound photo of one of my children so I guess it all ties in! xxx

My screen name is the tattoo that is on my leg. The avatar is not, because I didn't think people would want to see my leg. I picked that screen name because the tattoo has significance to me. I makes me remember the way life was when I got the tattoo vs. the way life is now. I never want to forget my past, because that is how I became who I am today. I hope that makes sense. I use the unicorn in various forms for most of my screen names.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense to me. The past is gone, but we never want to forget it, or how we've moved on into the future. I think that's a very good reason for using a particular screen name. Could you not find a similar pic of the tattoo, to show? Anyhow,
I like your "My Little Pony" unicorn avatar! lol. He's cute!!!
Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings.

I couldn't find a similar pic of the tattoo to use. The tattoo that I have was drawn for me on the spot when I got my tattoo and then destroyed after. I searched forever trying to find a pic that was even close, but I couldn't find one. My tattoo is just the unicorn head with long, flowing hair. It is, of course, blue in color.

My name is a contraction of the older spelling of "Fairy" and a name I made up when I was in high school. I doodled faeries a lot during math class (suppose I should have been paying attention, but oh well) and I named one of them Rialn (Ree-ah-lin) and another, her darker self, Ane (pronounced Ahn, not Ain). So The Faerie Ane became me, FaerieAne. And 2003 is the year I graduated high school, the beginning of the rest of my life, and the end of the not-so-best years of my life. And, Tah-Dah! Here am I, five years later, married with a bunch of animals and two kids. O_o Who'd have known that back then?

Wow... what a lovely reason! I have a thing about faeries, which you might discover someday. I have already included them in a few discussions on walks in the countryside and my garden, so I daresay they might pop their little heads into my discussions again sometime. Spring is almost here, and they will be coming out to cause mischief again. :)
Brightest Blessings, and welcome to my friends list. Thank you for the invite, my friend. :)

My avatar on Mylot, as you know, is a revolving heart and came about when joining MyLot after my heart operation and keeps reminding me how precious life can be and I am still here thanks to wonderfull surgeons that do the op on a daily basis to give us an extended life.
Blessings my friend.

Yes, and I am eternally grateful to those surgeons who undertook your triple heart bypass, that you were here to support and guide me, when I came to Mylot, my dear friend. Your friendship has been unflagging and your encouragement and support so valuable to me. I'm so glad you came into my World. I know you knew all that, but it's nice to see it in writing, huh? :)
Brightest Blessings, my dear friend, and thank you for your input. x

Not necessary that the screen name should have any meaning... people usually use a starnge name to attract peoples attention.

I picked my name because I always liked the name Sarah Beth but I was afraid Sarah Beth was already taken, like it was at yahoo games, so I added Ruth and one of my favorite numbers and there you have it. One friend thought my screen name was the names of my daughters.I thought that was cute but it is just me, using the name I wish I were born with.

I must admit, I've seen you around the site and I just plain assumed that your name was Sarah Beth, so your theory seems to have worked with some of us. I did puzzle on the Ruth though, because Sarah Beth is well known as a name, but it's unusual to have Ruth in the middle... but eventually I put Ruth down to your second name, and Sarah Beth, your first. I guess, from that, you could say that I was wrong, on all counts! ha ha ha
Thank you for your input and Brightest Blessings.

There's nothing boring about that! Quite a lot of people do it. They don't like to fiddle about finding names which somebody else might already have anyway.
Yes, Love in the Mist is a blue flower, and can also be found in white. They're quite popular in England, but I don't know whether you have it. It's a kind of pumpkin shaped flower when it's closed, which opens out into a lovely flower with many petals, amongst a lot of spiky needles which form leaves, and denote the mist, I guess.
A lot of people take it that it means something else, because they haven't heard of the flower, but there you go! ha ha ha See if I care!:) I'm glad you like it anyway.

Yes, I agree, everybody will recognise you by your real name and it is easy to remember.
Darkwing is quite an easy one to remember too and I use it on several sites, but in Pogo, I have different ones, which are also shared on Instant Messengers. I write them all down to remember them. lol.
Brightest Blessings.
