Yes, it is true. At one time there were man carrying rotary wing kites. What a hoot! Wish I could have ridden in one. Here's a link with a pretty good picture, too! http://www.rotaryforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15698 I'm aware of another instance of this kind of contraption that dates back to the invention of heliocopters. The Russians in order to preserve their valuable protype heliocopters had a man carrying rotary wing kite that was used to teach pilots to land. What do you think of this forgotton invention? Would you ride in one? Can you think of any modern purpose for these things?

Yeah, I would ride in one! I want one now! I want one of the little ones. It would fit in the backyard. Shoot it would almost fit in a parking spot. Wouldn't that be a hoot to take to work? No traffic jambs for me. There used to be a guy up in North Volusia County here in Fl. that flew a contraption that had wings and a helicopter propeller. He got away with it because of the area he was in, almost no people and he stayed just above the treeline. The only airport nearby is private. He kept the thing on his property which was plenty big. A lot of folks in that area had mini landing strips on their property for crop dusters since it is all farming and ferneries. Shalom~Adoniah
