If Toilet Water Was The Only Water Left To Drink--Would You Drink It?

This is something my one friend and I have discussed before. If there was no water but this to drink would you drink it. My thing is the water sitting in the tank has never been touched by someone urinating in it. It is just water. There is no doubt in my mind that if that was the only water left to drink that I would drink it. There is nothing wrong with it other than in peoples mind it was in the toilet area. What are you folks thoughts on this?

Hi sunshinelady, for me I would drink it as this is the only water which could save my life, more over the water in the tank is clean. Most of the people refuse to drink the water is just because of psychological effect, thinking that every thing related to toilet is dirty and disgusting. Let say no one willing to drink the water in a spittoon though he knows that the clean water is in a brand new container, because man always likes to see thing in one aspect. For him a spittoon is for spit so every thing in it is dirty and nasty even though it is not so.

Hi sunshinelady, I totally agree with you there is nothing wrong to do so. But we shouldn’t save our life by scarifying the life of a person who is in the same boat. I did learn from the news many years ago a victim did drink his own urine to save his own life after had been trapped for several days beneath the collapsed building.

Hi Ikbooi, That is the thing. If this was what was going to save my life I would not hesitate to drink it. It is only water and there is nothing wrong with it. If that is what stands between me and staying alive--I would opt for the staying alive and drink it.

dogs and cats drink it and I guess I would too rather than die. But not if it is dirty, though I have heard that some people in the wilderness have had to drink their own urine to survive.

It is surprising what folks will do what they said they wouldn't ever do when it comes to the fact of surviving.

Ok, if there was absolutely not other water available in the world I suppose I would drink it but would walk a mile to find something else first. Now, I keep my toilets clean - sanitizing weely at least but fact is someone has done their business in there and clean water or not that bowl is not clean. Mentally I think I would drink from a mud puddle before the toilet.

Except that I have a clorine tablet in mine, I also wouldn't have a problem with the tank water

That would be a problem as far as one drinking the water. But without that in there I would not hesitate to drink the water there.

If there is water in the bowl, there is most likely water in the tank. The tank water even if it is a little rusty or discolored would be a lot healthier than the water in the bowl. Just because the bowl has been flushed does not mean that it is clean. Fecal matter and urine are not completely cleansed away by a simply flushing of the toilet. The water in the bowl is not safe to drink. However, the water in the tank has not been contaminated by anything other than the rubber stopper and the metal chain attatched to the stopper. That is unless you are one of those people who are into Mr. Blue Tidybowl, and put those tablets in the tank and then none of the water would ever be safe to drink!! If you are concerned about a time when there might not be potable water to drink, then you should invest in a five gallon potable water storage container and keep it filled with fresh water. Then you would always be prepared, and would not have to worry about drinking toilet water. Shalom~Adoniah

I guess if there was no other choice I would have to but while there was anything else to drink even pay for spring water I would do that, bottles water sometimes worries me as i think that would be a scam by some companies just to fill up bottles with ordinary water, but I would only drink recycled toilet water if there was no alternative...Oh please pleas don't let it happen........

I'm one of those people that wouldn't drink it because its in the toilet area. ^__^;; I could never imagine myself drinking it. and besides, the tank where the water is stored is never really cleaned. who cleans the insides of the tank? I don't know anybody who does it. I mean, there's really no need to clean the tank since the water is for flushing purposes only right? so the water inside is still dirty and who knows what bacteria have grown there right? ^__^;; but I could never tell too. people get desperate when they are dying of thirst and hunger. ^__^;;
