According to John Tesh, the average American loses their temper 3-4 times a week.
I don't think I am that high but I have not counted. Of course some weeks are really bad. I wonder what he means by 'losing your temper'?
How do you define 'losing your temper' and how often do you do it?
Do you regret it afterwards? Do you feel better?
Have you found tricks to help you control your temper?

I'm one of those good person who turn in a monster, that's what some of my friends would always refer to me whenever I am frustrated. Though I get frustrated at times (not sure how many times though), I only let it out to feel relieved. I shout, course at times, but that's my outlet in letting out my anger.
Sometimes, my friends would also call my "grumpy" but that's meant in a funny way!;)
BTW Am not from the US, so I guess everyone does have their "times like this/that." ;-)

I think letting your anger out is a good thing, I am one to let is fester - which is not as healthy. I think the stress of the everyday world kind of ties us together in the anger department.

Yes, I think we are all common in that way. But the only difference that makes is, how we deal and how to handle it whenever our temper's would raise. I also look at myself as a 100% "jolly-good" person, but that can change without any particular time in just a matter of minute(s).

I wonder if he is counting actual temper outbursts, or just feeling like you want to? I go through whole days when everything makes me feel angry, but I recognize my feelings, label them and put them away, until I reach someone who is a good listener and will not judge me over my feelings. How many times to I display my temper, probably not more than twice a week. Probably less. If I do give in and have an outburst, yes, I do regret it. It never makes me feel bettter to lose my temper.

I think it is actually displaying the outbursts. If they counted all the times that people felt like it..we would need a super computer to count.

It is very very rare for me to lose my temper, I think the only times I have lost my temper is when I lived with my ex and then it was common, he would enrage me so much that I would totally flip I think he was the catalyst and I have never seen myself get so angry in all my life! Is it any wonder why I had to get away and save my sanity. Even counting to ten didn't help or taking deep breathes. He was impossible and I was afraid to say that my temper went out of control. Weird isn't it that since I left him I haven't lost my temper once!

It sounds like he added a lot of unnecessary stress to your life and you are way beetter off without him - in every way.
Glad that you are doing better now.

When I get angry I try to communicate my anger with words instead of actions. So I let the person I am angry with know that I am angry without using offensive language Sometimes I get so angry that I cry out of anger. It is a normal human emotion and it can be controlled up to a certain point.

I think many women cry when angry..it is just one more way to relieve stress. It is good to try and control it, but make sure you don't keep it all pent up.

Well, that is not good. Many of us spend a lot of time worrying about money. You should not depend on Mom for money, but get a job or another job. You will feel better about yourself.
I am glad you don't do negative things when you are angry...far too many do that already.

I loose my temper when I am annoyed... I get annoyed especially when someone find it so difficult to understand somehting that is so simple. Also, when I have to constantly tell any adult what they need to do (things they are rsponsible for), and I cannot stand deceitful person... Oh! and I have absolutly no tolerance for someone who speaks unnecessarily incessantly...
I try to ignore it, but sometimes I get really angry...I don't feel any better though when I get angry, I get very tense...

Wow, I guess that you get annoyed a lot - you can not stand deceitful people (I agree there) and people who are not responsible for what the need to do - I work with a few of them. And if you get annoyed at talkers...stay away from my father.
Are you doing anything to help relieve your stress and tension?

I do sometimes...but a few weeks ago, someone at work even commented how I never lose my temp. I tend to let it fester, then when I lose my temp, it is short and fast.

I think it depends on the week but for the most part the last few years I think I lose mine maybe a couple times a week - I used to lose it daily :( I almost always feel bad after I do lose it though because I do my best to be the 'calming' effect in other people's lives particularly my kids and grandkids.
I think my 'trick' is to lose my temper in my mind then it's over and I can react outwardly calmly.

I can understand losing your temper especially with kids..they can be trying.
How do you lose your temper in your mind. That is intriguing?

Oh lossing your temper in your mind is very simple and can actually be fun - to myself, in my mind I say all the things I would really love to say outloud but know I shouldn't.
Funny thing is my kids know I do this - just last week I was taking a friend of Shane's home. I was upset with both of them (the friend calls me Mom). Well, friend asked me something and I didn't respond. Shane said, "She's blowing up in her head again, she'll be ok in a minute".

My first thought was what is John Tesh doing talking about losing your temper and how did someone find out? Well, I'm out of the loop again obviously, since googling and finding that he's on the radio now!!
Anyway, I usually try to let it slide most of the time. That means that, like someone posted above, I am in tears of anger about three times a week. I usually apologize and try to discuss what's bothering me. No, it doesn't usually help because I'm the only woman in this household and the men aren't great at discussing where they are wrong HAha! I have no tricks though, just trying not to hold things in so long that I explode....Whit

Shoot, sometimes I lose my temper 3-4 times a day! I guess I need to know what constitutes "losing your temper though." I don't scream or anything like that. I guess what I lose is my patience, usually with my husband.
I don't normally feel better after losing my temper, I feel better after we talk about it.

I just think that it is a very stressful and demanding time we live in and everyone seems to be in a mad rush to get somewhere. For me, I lose my temper when I'm driving mostly or waiting in line. I also suffer from depression. Maybe that's why I'm angry at times.

I know how you feel, especially while driving and waiting in line. One time, i was driving, someone cut me off, almost caused an accident. I used a few fine words and a few gestures - then realized it was my boss (ooops).
I would think with depression you would feel more frustrated than angry...that is how I am.
