So yesterday I went out to get a few things we needed. We were suppose to get a snow storm which means everyone would be out buying milk bread and butter. Every store I went to was sold out of butter. I gave up and went to a friends house and she gave me some butter.LOL Do people panick when expecting a snow storm where you live? And we didnt even get any snow!

I live in Florida so we worry about Hurricanes and tornadoes most of the time. I use to ignore it until I lost everything to 3 hurricanes and a tornado within a 2 month period. 2 hurricanes in the same month then another one right behind them the first of the next month. I don't ignore these reports anymore and I don't think anyone should. It would be hard to be snowed in without water or food. I don't panic but I do try to be prepared.

Please excuse my ignorance, it never snows out here. How come you need those particular foods if a snow storm is coming. I hate it when the weather men predict something and it never happens. All they can do is guess at what they think God is going to do.

Oh yeah, it happens here and sometimes it is good, because we are in the country and so the roads are not taken care of and it's hard to get into town..But they also go over board, like they will be snowed in for weeks..lol

I believe the longest we have been snowed in is maybe 2 days, and that is because not only do we have country roads that don't get well cared for, but since we also are in a gated community and not on the main road, it takes a little longer..

Yes, this happens in our area and it's usually the first snow of the winter season. People rush to the store, wait in long lines to buy necessities and then the snow misses our area. I don't do this but instead keep a few things in the freezer so we have a backup plan. If we're without the daily staples, it's fine. It's harder to find snow shovels or salt than milk once we have a forecast for snow or ice.

Personally, I could probably survive a month without shopping, if I wanted to use powdered milk or canned milk. However, my clients in the group home do not hae that luxury. I have been doing a lot of their shopping and have seriously economised for them. The problem is that we are not allowed to take them shopping if it is snowy or icy. I am also not allowed to take their vision card or check and shop for them. They have to go. We got rather thin on groceries in this last month, so I now am buying a few small extras, like soup and meat, etc. Then they will not feel that they are starving, just because I cannot make a new menu and shop for them.

Oh heck yes Terry. I live in middle TN so snow can be quite a hardship for us if we get any real accumulation. More often then not its an ice snow mixture. You can set your watch to it after the evening news or mid day news if you have to go to the store for a gal of milk which you would have any way, you can bet your bottom dollar the stores will be sold out. What's crazy however nothing hangs around here as far as precipitation for more then 24 hours to begin with. No one ever starves during one of our winter weather snaps.

Well, living in the great white north, we are lucky if we dont get snow all year round. LOL just kidding, summer is nice here. nice and hot. But no we dont panic when there is a storm, there are a LOT of storms here, and we are used to it. Where do you live ? do you not get snow all winter? The only day that the stores are really busy around here is sundays. Apparently people LOVE to shop on the sunday shopping. I dont think i've ever seen a store completely out of bread, butter, or milk though.. lol thats sort of funny in a pathetic kind of way isn't it ?

There was one year we had plenty of warning of a storm coming. I was stocked up and in good shape. I was so thankful for that. We got snowed in for a week. When we could finally get out and go somewhere, the family scattered so fast it made your head turn. I guess we all had a bit of cabin fever and we were sick of looking at each other. We had lost power during this also. We kept ourselves entertained playing cards by candle light. We have a lot of good memories of that but would not want to do it very often. There were some hardships also. We had to run the generator so we would have heat and to keep the refrigerator cold. My hubby had to keep monitoring that situation. I am also glad we had water stock piled because without the electric to power the pump, we had no running water. Now when we hear that a storm is coming, we make sure we are ready for it.

Not only do they panic when they hear it's going to snow, they panic when they hear it's going to be really cold, like down in the teens or lower. I noticed this quite a few times.
I buy Hellman's mayo and I've used it on toast in case your ever in a pinch without butter, haha. I've also used it on baked potato's too, not very healthy, but oh pretty good! And, of course, if you mix it with ketchup you can have Thousdand Island Salad dressing. Here I go sounding like a commercial again, lol!

I used to work as a cashier in a grocery store and some of the "pre-snow store rushes" were a lot weirder than lack of butter. We had people who would stock up on toilet paper, seriously they would buy over 100 rolls at a time, then there are the ones that roll the cart filled with paper towel rolls. Some days I just wanted to whisper to them, "it will only be 3 inches, we will be open" but i never did.

People do panic buy, as though they are going to get snowed in for a month! Rather than a few days, it always made me laugh around Christmas, the shops were closed for just TWO days and yet you would see people going around with trolley loads of shopping! The day after Christmas the same people would be back with trolley loads again! People always fear the worst, but I'm sure people can do without butter! Milk and bread would be more important surely? Mind you I am slightly biased as I don't eat butter so it wasn't me who bought up all the butter in town LOL

Lol no here that does not happen
The only time I have ever known a Supermarket to run out of food was in Germany when they knocked the Berlin Wall down I was furious
They where queuing ay the Shops hours before they opened and by the time I got there everything was gone
But no this has not happened here yet lol
I am glad though that you managed to get butter even though the Snow storm never happened lol

I like to have basic food handy. I go shopping if I have good mood for shopping...and I try to buy small supply for later. I don't panic when snow storm, but when is too cold...

Oh yes, people go crazy here if they just call for it. The people here usually get bread and milk. And I've never really understood why people go for those things anyway. I can understand the bread because you could make peanut butter sandwiches if your power goes out and if you are stuck in the house for a while but if it goes out then the milk goes bad. I don't go out and buy things when they call for ice or snow unless we are out of them and I was going to have to buy them anyway.

We don't panic quite like that. In fact, when I hear there is a snow storm (quite common around here) we are more concerned about getting home safely and being snug in our house before it hits. We don't even think about whether or not we have milk and butter :-D
