My older son didn't start walking until he was 14 months and he didn't say a word until he was 3. He was very delayed in my opinion being that the kids in my family usually start walking between 9 & 10 months and saying words soon after. But now my son is 13 and he talks too much and he excels more than any child in my family in school. So, all of that to say, don't worry!

Some children don't speak early because they just don't have to... Relax my friend! I know of some mothers just like you who are really very worried simply because their kids are not yet talking. One of them who used to worry a lot about 6 years ago now has a very smart and inquisitive kid.
Do not expect your dear baby to be running just yet... It's but normal for him to still be crawling for now.
Be patient my dear friend... He will surprise you you will see... =)

Oh yes, don’t turn your hairs grey as yet. Its absolutely normal for some babies to walk and talk late but once they start, there's no stopping them you know. Its then that you will say 'God do I need a break!' but seriously, don’t worry, help with with a walker and talk to him as much as you can.

my daughter just turned one. since she was 9 months i was always consirned with her speech. she still doesn't say any words that most people would understand. but she can wave, point, and hi five. mostly hand gestures. i told her doc about my consirns, and she told me that they like to hear at least 2 words when they turn one, but if they are making lots of baby noises, and "talking" to you then there is no worry.
as for walking the normal is at a year old, but it doesn't become a problem until they are past 18 months. normal walking age is 9-18months. my daughter is just starting to walk more, and can walk across the room, and partly into the other. like most people said as long as he is making some sort of progress then don't worry to much

Hi mamakatsarj,
Don't worry. Your son is normal only. Some children will be little slow in learnings. My son who had everything got delayed but he is now one of the best Software Engineer. What you have to see at this age is that whether your child is healthy or not. If he is active, he is perfectly alright.
Good Luck.

All children are different, so you can't judge your son based on the age people tell you he 'should' be doing things. My son didn't walk until he was 14 months old, and he says a lot of words, but also says a lot of 'baby talk' that I can't understand. This is well within the range of normal.
Is your son making any progress at all? Is he pulling himself up or walking while holding your hands or furniture? Does he try to communicate with you by pointing to things, or trying to copy the sounds you make? If he does even some of these things, he is probably fine.
If he doesn't seem to be making progress or trying to learn these new skills, then talk to his pediatrician. There could be something going on. Be sure to offer many opportunities for him to pull himself up and walk. Encourage him to walk holding your hands. Read to him often, and talk to him a lot. Hearing language is the best way to learn it.
