my ipod screen is busted. help?

my friend dropped by ipod and at first there was just a black streak in the middle of it but now it has gotten to the point where i cannot even see the screen. in order to see it, and i barely can, i must turn off the backlight. its not covered under warranty anymore, ive already spoken with apple. any thoughts on what i should do?
