Are Our "Leaders" The Cause of So Much Apathy?

In recent times, listening to the news is almost like reading a copy of The Inquirer. I've come to the conclusion that because of the lack of leadership and integrity among politicians, corporate executives and the like, people are fed up and have lost faith in many of them. It's becoming more and more difficult to point to someone and say he/she is so admired. After a while it gets to be a question of how much more are we supposed to stomach. Either some big-shot's on his way to jail, or someone is being outed for bad behavior or others are padding the books and spending everybody else's money for their own gain. Voting seems to be a matter of which of two evils is better and we can't even trust the voting polls. This is unfortunate because apathy spreads so quickly. I don't really believe there's much we can do. Maybe it's true that power corrupts and I believe it starts at the top and trickles down. But if you had the power to put a lid on some of this nonsense, what would you do?
