i keyboard on a laptop should have a lifespan of over 2 years, maybe 3. the way you can increase the life of the keys is to try not to get crumbs and fluff stuck under the keys. you can buy canisters of air, the size of a deodorant can with a small nozzle on it, that can blow all the fluff out from behind the keyboard. if you do get something stuck and find it hard to remove it, pop a single key off the keyboard and tilt your laptop till the crumb rolls into view. then remove.

Life time is like PC keyboard, if only you are not smashing it. About letters - they are going of after year, or maybe more/less, i depends how much are you typing, but its not big problem, in normal PC sore you can by stickers with nummbers, symbols, letters.
