How would you know if someone is cheap or not?

Usually i can tell if someone is cheap and if someone is a spender. But when it comes to this guy, i am clueless!! Sometimes he would buy me expensive stuff and other times he would let me pay for myself! like the other day we were on a romantic dinner and i payed my share! another time he bought me a sweater that i liked.. How would i know!! He is confusing the hell out of me!!

I wanna tell you one thing. If the guy has got you somethning that you liked , then obviously he is one guy with great generosity. Not only that he is a great friend of your's if he/she had bought the expensive stuff for you. If you are very close to the guy , then by this time you must have analysed his character. Anyways according to me the guy is not cheap as he might have been in some financial problem when he was not able to get the stuff for you. There is no CONFUSION unless ther is proper COMMUNICATION!!!
