It is flu season and here in Quebec, we can get a flu shot to prevent getting the flu. The elderly, and people with medical conditions can get it for free everyone else has to pay for it. Some people are afraid to get the shot because they say they get seriously ill with it, only the health authorities say it is very rare that this happens. Do you get the flu often Do you get the flu shot, why or why not? Is there even a flu vaccine in your country of origin?

In ontario its offered to everyone free i'm pretty sure. I got offered it and i work at zellers, i'm not elderly nor do i have a medical condition! However i am pregnant so i refused to get it. I got the flu twice this winter so far, but it only lasted about 24 hours if that. My daughter got it too. She was more sick then me, but probably cause it was her first encounter witht he flu :/

yeah, flu is a concerning thing in my country too...but vaccination is not binding ere.people take shots if they like, since the disease is not an epidemic here. even there is no fixed vaccination schedule for it.the vaccines get imported as very few amount is required. have a nice day.

I used to get a flu shot when I was working in a place that housed handicap children. I used to have good insurance and the flu vaccine was fairly cheap. I haven't had the vaccine since I quit working outside of the home though. I usdually get the flu at least once a year but I haven't this year yet, thank God, and knock on wood. We don't have insurance and the money is very tight.

being that I am disabled now, I wouldn't have to pay for it.

Yes. Canada has some good things. We cannot afford healthcare here in the U.S. We have to pay for it even if we have a job. It is outragious too. We don't have insurance so everything is out of pocket expenses.

Hi winterose, Actually, I've just got my flu shot almost a week ago. I usually get it earlier (before the new year), but it didn't work that way this year. I do find it beneficial, and believe it's prevented me from getting the terrible chest colds I used to suffer from. It used to be handled the way you've described here, but now here in Ontario, it's available to 'everyone' for free.

Dec. 27 of 2006 I was taken to the hospital and was not breathing by the time I got there. I had double pneumonia and while in there they give me a flu shot and pneumonia shot. I have never been so sick in all my life and don't want any of that again, I had no idea I had pneumonia much less double. I had been taking flu medicine thought it was just flu. With that said, yes, I got my flu shot for this flu season and will get it again next year. Mine cost me 20.00 and I didn't have to go to the doctor's office to get it, they have flu clinics set up at certain times. People need to get the shots ahead of time since it takes them two weeks to kick in. If you do get the flu after a flu shot then it is not from the shot it is a different strain of flu that was not covered in the shot.

I used to get a flu shot. I am deathly afraid of needles but it did not hurt at all and I did not get sick. I have not taken a flu shot in the last two years. It seems I got the flu early on before the shots were available, so I did not bother. I think though I will take it again next year. I think people with certain allergies might get sick but you are asked about those before they give you the shot. I think it saves the health care system a lot of money if people take the flu shot.

Yes I do get the flu shot. I get it every year. There is a day that they give it free at our hospital. From 8am to 2 pm. After that you have to pay for the shot.

I just got my flu shot last summer! hehe. Well in the Philippines (well Manila anyway from what I know of) has vaccines and there are also medical missions that give out free ones. I had mine back when I was way way young but I guess it expired and my doc told me to take another. It stung a bit though but so far so good. Next vaccine is for cervical cancer I think... wahh! They say that it'll hurt so!!

My husband makes me get my "flu shot". He is a medical provider and insists that I get it. I can't remember the last time I got the flu. I hate shots and he knows that there is no way that I am going to willingly get one. He gives me the flu mist. They squirt it into your nose and it runs down your throat. It sounds absolutely terrible but I much prefer it to a needle!

No I don't anymore, I used to and got sick anyway. I take echinechia, zinc, Vit C and goldenseal daily and for the past three years now have not been sick. Before that flu shot or not I got sick and was sick 3-6 weeks. Every single year. Then I started going natural herbs and am a lot healthier for it. I also take L-Lysine. Drink Herbal teas and see a naturopath. Besides those things If I even get a small start of a sorethroat I take a shot glass straight and fast of 190 proof Everclear. It burns it right out.

I've survived the flu for 20 years without the shot, I think I can survive with out the shot now. I've never really seen the point of getting it when I can just get it over with myself. It'll take longer but I'd have an all natural immunity. It's not that they don't offer it here in the US either. It's not that I can't afford it either. I just don't like it.

My mom and little sis live in Ontario. They are both having flu shots annually. I also had my my kids have it. According to my mother, she catches colds but the symptoms are not as severe as when she didn't have flu shot. My daughter who's with me here in the Philippines doesn't catch flu that often sice she had the shot. I think the vaccine is just for prevention. Additional precautions such as eating balanced diet, resting well and others are necessary to avoid having flu.

I have gotten a flu shot the last 3 years and I have not gotten the flu! My health insurance plan gives us free flu shots. In my local Walmart they have a clinic that gives the shots for 15.00.
