Yes, I've read the three books including The Hobbit. You have to read the Hobbit so you can fully understand the history of the ring, Bilbo's adventures are great too...

My mother had kept her hardback collection that she bought when she was a teenager. And I had a version of The Hobbit that included art from the animation version. I tried reading that when I was a teen, but didn't get very far. I only finished them after I saw the first LOTR movie. I still have to read the Similarion (sp?) but I think I will get to it in time.

I'm a big fan of the movie but I didn't read any of the books. I think one can enjoy the movies without reading any of the books. If I hae time though, I'd love to read all four books.

Yes I read the Hobbit first. Then the three books Fellowship, Two Towers, and the Return of the King. I also read the Silmarillian. It also helps with some background. I loved the books so much! I must confess to reading them more than once. I will not say how many times though. LOL

Ive read both bilbo, Silmarillion and the LOTRs trilogy several times. Right now im currently reading The Two Towers, first i borrowed a new version of it and didnt like some of the language that it had. Then i had the luck of finding an older version at a local flea market and instantly grabbed and bought it.
