I have been walking 3 or 4 times a week on my treadmill at home for about 30 minutes each time. I usually do about 2 kilometres each time. I feel like I am toning however not losing weight. Would like to know from others, if you use walking to lose weight? How long do you walk for? What speed? How much weight hava you lost by walking each week? How many times a week do you exercise? Also do you have to diet aswell to lose the kilos?

There is not a certain speed that you should be going to lose weight walking. However to lose weight you need to be going at a pace that you are puffing and pushing yourself but can still hold a conversation. You should be doing about an hour a day to lose weight. It may also be your diet. You need to ensure that you are eating lots of veggies, watching portion sizes, drinking water etc.
I hope that helps

During the warmer months I got into a routine of walking around the block where I work several times or walking downtown to do errands. I didn't really notice the efects until I stopped walking - I'm more tired and I've gained weight. I applaud your efforts!

If you are toning, then you are losing fat, but gaining muscle. As you gain muscle, it burns calories more efficiently, which causes you to lose more fat, even when you're not working out. I think you'll start to notice weight loss sooner or later. I hope this helps.

Thanks for you comment. Guess I just get frustrated when I don't see numbers on scales go down. I will keep at it.

I love walking and hiking. I walk with friends if they do not mind walking for long distance. I do not walk fast, because I do not mean to lose weight by walking, just enjoy the fresh air and relaxed feelings. A friend of mine walks to lose weight. He walks fast. He has been walking for twice a day and 40 min each time. It really works. He has lost 6kg in the past 2 months.

In order for you to lose weight by way of walking you must walk at a faster rate not just the casual walking since you need more effort to take out that fats. Just like what the common people say, no pain no gain. So if you would like to lose that fat, give it more of your casual walk. I cannot say the right speed since each person have different paces and different results. But perhaps the best gauge would be is to see to it that you sweat. But obviously do not overdue it so as to take out the pleasure of walking. Another thing is you should not skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight. People have this misconception that if you do not eat breakfast you will lose weight but studies have indicated otherwise. What matters are food your eating and the amount you are taking. Have vegetables and fruit and lessen up on meat. Eat little during dinner since you won't have much thing to do in the evening and extra food in your stomach is not properly digested. Hope you will succeed!

Since New Year my wife has taken to walking to her office about a mile and a half away and back. She walks briskly, but doesn't jog. She is visibly more toned now and wearing clothes that haven't seen the light of day for 2 or 3 years. That's in just 3 weeks. I work from home, so walking to work is not quite so effective for me. I think that losing weight is less important than being fit. Keep it up and I expect that not only will you tone, but you'll lose some weight too.

Wow that is pretty good that your wife has toned up in the short period of 3 weeks by walking to work. Thanks for your encouragement.
