Has anyone tried brushing their cats teeth?

Have you been successful? Or is it a vets job. I hear it prolongs the life of cats and dogs. True?

I use to do my dogs and he loved it. I'm afraid if I tried it with my cat, Morgana, she'd tear my arm off. LOL She loves me but not enough to let me do that. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I tried and failed. What I do now is to give them raw chicken necks to eat and that's an excellent way to keep their teeth clean. I used to believe that dry food kept them clean - but of course that's a myth.

OMG it would take a very brave person to try and brush my cats teeth, even to pat him he lets you get about three strokes then he tells you in very firm terms he has had enough....brushing his teeth makes me shudder....

I tried doing that, using a simple formula from a cat-help book, after my vet told me that my cat, Tabitha (now deceased) had tartar on her teeth. I dipped my finger in that formula and gently "brushed" the cat's teeth, particularly the back teeth, with some success. Some cats will allow you to do this after some time. Others just won't. Best idea is to try it out and see. Btw, tartar on a cat's teeth CAN affect the cat's health. It's always cheaper and maybe a bit more effective if you can clean your cat's teeth.

I've never been able to bring myself to do that. It seems the cat would just hate it. I have to clip the dog's nails. She detests that and I feel like a bully doing it.
