I have been battleing depression for 16 years now. Medication is neccesary for control of this disease. I have tried many times through the years to stop all medications. Resulting in a deeper episode of depression. I have learned my lesson. As medication is helpful, I still have many ups and downs. It is a difficult thing for someone without depression to realize the suffering of the depressed. I have much more to say, but I would like some responses so I can comment and add to anyones ideas. What do you think?

I'm taking my meds and I'm still depressed as all h.... At least I don't feel like killing anybody or myself (right now) and that surely must mean that he meds are working. That is where i'm at at this moment.
I too have tried several, not many, different meds. I found a couple of them only made matters worse. They made me feel a "rage" inside of me that was uncontrollable. I just hate feeling that way.
I've tried to stop using meds and that leads to disasters too. At first I feel great then all of a sudden I go "down hill".
Yes, I certainly realize that people around us don't understand our disease and do we?
I live in Tucson, AZ. It's a big enough city and there are lot's of mental health facilities around but I have not seen any group meetings for those with depression. The VA has one but it's too far and you have to step through "hoops" to be admitted into them. Hey, most the time I don't even want to go anywhere after or before going to work as it is.
You asked "What do you think?". I love this discussion, but I can't even think clearly right now.
Good luck with this discussion, the responses you are getting are great. I'm sorry I can't help more with mine.

i agree with you as well, im in the army, and i have been to iraq 3 times since 2003. and it has taken its toll on me. i tried to stop taking the meds as well, but with my depression, there is actually a chemical imbalance in my brain, so to stop taking it really isnt wise. im just greatfull that i found the help that i needed when i did.

Hello,Sweet! you have been under depression for a such long period and no medicine could set things right.what's the matter?first find out the cause of it than try to solve not by yourself but through your nearest and dearest people.don't bottle up your thoughts or feelings.the more bottle up,the more you will find it difficult to find hope.so vent your feelings and emotions to people close to you.always avoid polarising your thoughts.go for walk in the morning and if possible in the evening atleast for 15/20 minutes and try coming close to the nature, feel the sands on the beach, the texture of petals, appriciate God's creations.come home and visualize all that you just saw and felt.try to meditate for 15/20 minutes.or listen light music or devotional songs as you like.go to bed early and enjoy sound sleep.have good diet.when you are under stress or depression, certain hormones work over time and to balance that have carbo-rich snacks as eating carbohydrates boosts your levels of feel-good brain chemicals.another important nutrient you need to fight depression is vitamin B6found in meat, liver, whole grains and vegetableslike potato.you can also take yoghurt which has mood boosting vitamin B.this is the easiest way to come out of depression.thank you.all the best.
