I'd rather have something that shows my husband knows me and understands what I like than flowers, personally. He could give me something anime-related, or a video game, or books. It would mean more to me because it would be something I would use, and look at, and remember that he bought it for me. And it would prove that he loves me enough to remember what types of things I like and interest me, instead of falling back on the standard "romantic" stuff.
If it were going to be a surprise date, I would like to go somewhere that had significance to us personally based on our history together. Perhaps take a walk down to the little beach where we used to spend a lot of our time, or down by the canal where he proposed to me.

Women loves 3 things over everything else. They are.
1. Flowers of any kind - Valentine's, they better be roses.
2. Stuffed animals - Make sure it means something to you both.
3. Special Memories - Do something sweet she will remember.
Do one, two or all three of these things and you will
always be her hero.

I think it should be something spontanious and unique that she cant help but tell all her friends about! something she will like and something that is kinda personal, what are her hobbies that you could turn romantic and think never been done before.

I'm not a guy, but I have to say that I personally think Valentine's Day is such a dumb holiday. My husband tells me that he is always the luckiest guy at this time of year! :) I think flowers are a waste of money. Honestly, going out on a special date just because of a certain day on the calendar is silly, too. Restaurants are packed on that day and on the weekends before and after to the point that it is not enjoyable to be out. IF my husband were to get me anything for Valentine's Day I would hope for something that would be practical instead of spending money just to "prove" he loves me. Then again, that's my gift-giving philosphy in general.
