Why have reality shows so much success? They only show people scratching themselves all day long. They even show how they sleep! That's really silly.

Reality shows are made by the personality of the people involved and with very creative editing to tell a good story.
With the right people reality shows are the best. Its refreshing seeing things from normal people. Nothing you see on tv is real, all your CSI/Law & Order shows are regurgitated fiction witty enough to keep the masses happy. Its refreshing seeing normal every day people with no script interacting.
Look at Big Brother 8, the final shows were the highest drama of nearly any show because of the polarizing Evel Richard (mylot censors his first name). Everyone loved him or hated him. Without him on the show yes the show would have been terrible which is why casting is such a big deal with reality shows.

i just hate it.
All my family are addicted because of Big Brother Brazil.
In other channels, we have good reality-show like "O Aprendiz" (The Apprendice) that shows some culture at television.
But, in all big brother we just have a "famous" winner, but, 2 years after nobody recognizes he or she.

I used to not like reality shows. I get too embarrassed for the people on TV for making a fool of themselves on national/international viewers' entertainment. I did not really see much of a point.
But then I started watching the Big Brother in my country. I watched this one Celebrity season from the start to the finish and I really loved it. I learned a lot from that show, things I would never pick up anywhere else. Things I thought don't exist in real life that I hoped did.
My other favorites have been America's Next Top Model. My friends are huge fans and we would end up watching it while I'm over hanging out at their house. I guess I pretty much got addicted after a couple or so episodes. I also love the American Idol auditions part. They are always good for laughs.

I'd really love to know what people like about these stupid shows! No offense to those who like them - my daughter and granddaughter are hooked on a bunch of them - but I think they're a waste of time and effort. They belittle marriage, parenting and everything else. The thing is the networks love them because they're so much cheaper to produce than dramas or comedies where they have to pay big actors' salaries. I long for the days before this genre was even thought of!
