Rainy Days are killing me!

Okay so it has been raining for an entire week. It looks like the rain is not going away (so much for the sunny southern CA). I have five kids. The older four have many ways to keep themselves busy indoors during the rainy days. The youngest is 3. I am running out of ways to keep him busy! We've done playdough, bake cookies, play games... Anyone have creative new ideas for things to do with him inside? I'm at wits end and I think he is bored. Normally we go outside and ride bikes and go on the swings... Sigh... housebound stinks!

My 2 year old LOVES fingerpainting when we we can't go outside. If it was a girl I'd say play dress up...have you let him play games online?? check out nickjr.com or noggin.com...they have some awesome learning games for kidlets. I like the idea of letting him puddle splash...they LOVE that stuff...good luck and have fun

You know I hadn't thought of fingerpainting. LOL Some mom I am! :O) He doesn't play online much because he can't for the life of him figure out how to use the mouse (he just turned 3) although we do keep trying. Thanks for the suggestions!

LOL I had forgotten about it until I was looking at CafeMom a site I'm a member on for mom's only and a mom there posted pics of her son fingerpainting. We have lots of fun on yucky days doing that. My daughter also LOVES Dora so we'll watch her sometimes too and then talk about what she helped the animals do and how she can be like Dora.

isn't this rain driving you batty? LOL We've gone through every board game in the house a few times, and I never thought I would say this, but the kids are sick of all of them. Charades, now that might be fun for them... The older kids have been working their way through all of the Star Wars Movies with their daddy. LOL At least they are easier to entertain! :O)

I just checked the weather channel and we will be getting showers all week long!! I am going to go crazy. Now we aren't in jeopardy of a drought anymore which is great. I just want a few days of nice sunny weather!

Why not dress him up to keep dry... and yourself, and take him out for a good old stomp in the puddles. Kids have great fun playing in the rain. Then, you can bring him home for a nice hot bath/shower, and a bowl of soup for all, to warm them up. Young kids need to expel some energy. After that, I'm sure he'll be content to sit down to one of his games, colour in some books, or do some jigsaws or something. If you really can't bring yourself to do that... how about some more energy expending games. Is there room for him to play a bean bag game, or do you have some skittles he could bowl at? There are quite a few things he could do indoors, but then, nothing beats the fresh air and a good old puddle-stomp. I even do that now, at my age. lol. Brightest Blessings. Brightest Blessings.

I'm going to keep this one in mind! Granted, not until everyone is well (we've been dealing with the flu, then ear infections, then bronchitis, and I just got out of the hospital with pneumonia). Thanks for your ideas!!!

Ugh... it seems it's your "bad luck" period, but never fear, that will soon be over and you can enjoy a puddle stomp, for sure! :)

Have you ever seen one of those small jogging trampolines? If he's got pent up energy, get one of them, let him jog, bounce ect.. he'll burn some of it off. I'd definitely trade the so cal rain this time of year for what I've been dealing with this year. I was born and lived in so cal (san berdo mtns) until I was 13. Now I'm in Kansas and the last couple days is the first time we've been above freezing since early december. I've raised two kids in it, both boys.

Yes, you win! :O) I would not trade for your freezing temps for anything! Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful that it isn't freezing or snowing! LOL I think I just have cabin fever. That is a great idea about the jogging trampoline! I would never have thought of it, and it might be just what we need! Have a great day! And stay warm!

One of the games my kids like to play when they are stuck in the house is Hullabaloo (I hope I spelled that right) by Cranium. It's nice because you can spread the rubber pads down and then press the button the the machine. Thye pads are different colors, shapes and have different items printed on them. It will then says things like go to the yellow pad, walk to the triangle pad, hop to a food, etc. It's easy for the kids to play by themselves. We will still play with our kids when they ask. My kids are 8 and 10 and have had that game for at least 4 years, and they still love to play it. My girl friend got it for her 5 yr old and 3 yr old twins and they love it too. They pull it out, set it up, play it and put it away by themselves too.

I have never even heard of this game! (though I have heard of Cranium...) I will have to look for it! All of my kids adore games, and ones that let you be active get bonus points. Thanks so much!!!

I hate rainy days too, my favorite kind of day is when it snows about 4 inches. That way it looks really nice out but it't not hard to get from place to place. 5 Kids??? That's gotta be tough for you. I guess one way to keep them busy would be to let them watch TV or something.

lol, yes five kids is alot, and no its not too hard. :O) In fact, 5 is easier than 2 was believe it or not. THey all play well together (well except for the 3 yr old, he likes them to leave him alone). They already watch too much t.v. in my book, I only allow a certain amount of t.v. because the boys always end up trying to watch shows that are just too violent. Not too mention, I don't want them to grow up lazy and lethargic.
