I bought both Canon and a Nikon compact cameras last year. They both cost about $300 and were otherwise pretty identical. The Nikon took better photographs but did not respond well to my daughter using it to dig holes in the sand on the beach with it! The canon (which she is not allowed anywhere near) continues to take great pictures though. Frankly I think that it is a case of you get what you pay for. I know that I would not go back to film for everyday snaps now. Good luck.

my friend was just looking at some digital cameras recently and was told that if you want the best camera and image quality- go for canon. :)

Depends on what sort of cameras you are looking for. Are you looking for compact digital cameras or Digital SLR cameras?
But whether it is compact digital cameras or digital SLR, both Canon and Nikon are quite on par with one another...
For compact digital camera, I would also recommend Panasonic Lumix (that uses Leica lens) and Sony...Both make good lenses as well...

I've heard that there really isn't much of a technical difference between the quality of Nikons and Canons, it's all up to personal preference. My mom swears by Nikons though. She works in a digital lab processing and editing photos taken by different photographers. She claims that the photos taken with Nikon cameras are consistently better quality than the photos taken with Canons. She says the image quality is sharper and the colors are more vibrant with Nikons. If you're looking for a very affordable camera, you might want to look at getting a used one. Craigslist.com is an excellent place to find used camera equipment at an affordable price.

I just got a Polaroid. I don't know which model but it's pink. I know that Canon is more expensive. My Polaroid is really good quality and has tons of settings and it really easy to use. I got mine for $89 at Target.
