My cat recently started pooping in the wrong places.

He is almost a year old and was litter box trained with no mishaps. Yesterday we found a pile of poop and blamed it on the dog, and this morning we found one in the bathroom. We know it wasn't the dog because he sleeps in the garage. We have him secluded in a room next to his litter box. Any other advice? I would appreciate it greatly.

i know sometimes my cat does that. but the main reason is the litter box needs to be cleaned out. if that isn't the case i'd agree to talk to a vet about it.

Thanks for your help. He seems to be doing much better. I will monitor his closely for any changes or any other strange behavior.

Kitty Kats... They will let U know when they R upset w/U by the behavior U describe... U R their master, but they will try 2 manipulate U... When my Kitty Kat feels 2 alone and/or I don't clean her box enough, I'll find stuff by the door where I leave everday... Her way of saying, I'm pissed... We need 2 talk... I'm willing 2 bet UR girlfriend/wife says the same thing... Otherwise, take her 2 the vet...I mean the cat...of course.... AC

well based on my research when my cat was trying to pee/poop in weird areas and nothing would come out, it was indicative of a bladder problem,(i reaseached on the net)and i had him checked by the vet coz he wasnt able to urinate and it was discovered that his bladder was blocked,he was "cathethered" due to whiskas (yes whiskas is harmful) anyway back to your cat, have him checked, maybe he has a blocked colon (is that what its called in cats?) good luck to your cat.

My cat actually had started pooping in wierd area's, but also in his box. He only did this two times. Since I started this post, he has used his box consistently, so maybe he was just angry with us for some reason. Thanks.

Sounds like your cat could be sick. I hate to be gross, but did the poo look normal - no mucus or anything like that? If not, your cat is probably sick and needs to go to the vet. If the poo was dried out, give your cat at least one serving a day of wet food and provide fresh running water, if that doesn't help call your vet.

It didn't seem any different than usual. Hopefully it was just because he was angry with us for some reason. He had been ok, without accidents all day. Thanks.

Ok he may have some health issues Or some cats refuse to use there box if not cleaned out daily,(removeing) the poop daily,if it gets too messy they wont use it. I have too cats so its a never ending job LOL!! strange as it may be but cats like a clean box.. Hope this helps

Two possibilities here that I can think of. He may be having some constipation issues and that is causing him to go where ever he is or close to. You might have a vet check him out. The other possibility is if he is still a tom cat, (not neutered) then he may be attempting to mark his territory. They don't just urinate for this purpose. I'd have the vet check for bowel obstructions or problems and if he's not fixed, get that done. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice. After a little while, we let him out of seclusion and so far hasn't had a problem. He is fixed and has been since a young age. I will watch him and make sure there are no more issues.

first have him checked to see if some thing is wrong, if not then did you change his ,does he need to be fixed, was the box dirty, was he mad, or upset about some thing, did you change his food. if none of the above fit then you may want t retrain him by putting him in a kitty condo door closed for about 6 to 8 weeks with his food his water his litter box and i nice soft blanket

There have been no new changes, he is fixed, box was clean, I am hoping he was just mad or upset about something. He has done much better with no accidents so far, out of seclusion. Is a kitty condo simialr to a dog cage? The only kitty condo's I know of are the carpeted climber things with holes for the cat to lay in.
