Modding A Dance Pad

Dance Pad - Made by Pelican, this pad can be used for the game Dance Dance Revolution, among others. It is fairly cheap (running about $20, usually), and can most likely be bought at your local Wal-Mart store. It connects to X-Box, Playstation, and Game-Cube consoles, and with the proper connector cables (not included), it can even connect to your computer in order to play StepMania.

I just bought a Dance Dance Revolution pad for playing with StepMania, but I got the $20 one from Wal-Mart. It slips all over the floor, and it's hard to tell where each button begins. Does anybody know the best way to modify the pad to fix these problems? I'd like something a little more permanent than just duct taping it to the floor. It'll be on carpet, if that helps any.
