I really think it depends on the drink. I'd note all the ingredients and then get on the internet and do some research on each one of them.
Many people use the energy drinks for that burst of energy, but the results long term can be as bad for your health as the "sugar high" you get from eating a candy bar for a burst of energy.
If you really don't have enough energy, I'd suggest you look at what you're eating. Do you have a good balance of veggies, fruit, grain and protien? Do you eat a lot of processed food, fast food. How much exercise do you get? Many times lack of energy is a result of not giving our bodies a well rounded diet and plenty of exercise to rev up the metabolism.

Oh, and by the way. You mentioned the word addicted. Do any of the ingredients in your energy drink have a history of being addictive? If they do, you might want to stop drinking that energy drink immediately.

To be honest I would now be very wary of any of the so called energy drinks on the market now. when they first came onto the market I found myself hooked on Red Bull and would drink anything up to a dozen cans in a day. Strangely enough, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't sleeping at night and did't understand why I was so hyper all the time
I realised after a while they they were full of chemicals and addatives, some of which I was allergic to, but they made me feel good so I continued to drink them. Eventually a friend of mine got me to stop drinking them, I was sick and ill from drinking too many energy drinks.
I would strongly urge you to think carefully about these drinks, the chemical contents and the additives and colours, they can be extremely bad for your health.

Don't be too dependent with it because you might end up not functioning well without it. Energy drinks try to heighten your energy level even if your body is already tired. This might cause problems when abused since the body can only take much.

Well, There is this one study that came out lately it was in the USA Today paper. They are actually trying to make energy drinks banned from schools because it was proven that in teens/adults, energy drinks over a prolonged use have shown to deteriorate bone mass, causing the bone itself to deteriorate and weaken, causing health issues, apart from the heart I mean.
