Laptop Batteries

How long does a laptop battery last? I have a toshiba satellite laptop. I have had it for about almost five years now. I have a feeling I need a new battery. Does anybody know how you would find if you need a new laptop battery? Are there signs that you look for? Help me!!

Hi,i have IBM X60 laptop, with battery capaciting 2.6Ah,battery with this capacity usually runs 3 hours on average,and i also have changed my battery. The easiest way is to compare it with the first time you buy your laptop. If your battery's life is shorter than the first time you buy it,i think you need a now one. I decided to buy a new battery when my old battery only could run for 15 minutes
