Regarding this topic: I have been playing video games since I was very young and always found the violence in them to be sort of comical. I believe that with games you can release your anger in a fictional setting without consequences leading to a much healthier lifestyle. I have never felt the urge to re-enact the events I play...I'd like to hear your thoughts on the topic. Feel free to share any stories you may have about your own experiences or even stories you've just heard about.

I was JUST saying this in another video game thread in here! My son will happily beat the crap out of someone on a video game over getting into fights at school any day...
I think that this whole excuse that video games and violence in movies, on tv etc is a load of nonsense to be honest with you...Both my kids have been watching crime drama, horror flicks, psychological thrillers etc etc and playing violent video games for yrs now and they are two of the most passive, gentle and kindhearted kids around..Now of course ppl will say "but they're your kids of course you'll say that"...which is in a way, true..BUT I have pretty much anyone who's ever met them backing me up on it from the teachers and principal to neighbours to family and friends and the parents of their friends :-D
Real life violence comes from a variety of sources be it bad parenting, a violent home, mental disorders, and so on...but NOT from videos or tv/movies..not if the parents are guiding their kids properly...

Now a days video games are appears to be realistic through special effects and advanced animations. hence it may have worse effects in children's mind. But it is a useful way to overcome the stress for adults. Some studies in India brought out the adverse effects of video games on children. Most of the children who regularly plays video games are become introvert. They dont like to interact with others and lives in their own imaginal world. They cant give much attention to their studies. Anyway My opinion is that the video games are best suited for adults to relieve tension.

And did they carry out the same tests for children who read a lot? For children who do a lot of drawing? For those who write a lot? For those who simply spend time alone in their own heads?

i agree with you its bullocks (ha) its not tv its not video games its the person and how they were raised. i play all the time and dont have an erge to do any of it (except for grand theft auto sometimes i get the erge to jump out of my car and grab someone out of there car beat them up and take there car, HA just kidding) if this were true dont you think we would have people going in maze like form trying to jump up onto things, swing from ropes, shoot anything coming at them, and etc.

I think it depends on the person. I can see how they can add to it but I think it already has to be there. My husband likes those kind of games but he is the most gentle person. He has never raised his voice. And of course we don't allow him to play when Our daughter is around. I think as long as you teach your kids that it is not real and it is very wrong to be violent. Let them know that it is fake and they will be ok.

I dont think vidoe games are a major source of violence. When people are out playing the blame game the easiest thing to do is to blame the blame the violent videos game. Apart from that i dont think there are so many other things that would contribute to violence. Things like enviroment and parents or just the way people are.Either way when a kid is violent one cant really blame the computer game.

I too have been playing video games for a long time; and in fact most t=of the games I have played are shooters. I have also never felt an erge to go kill somebody or hurt anybody. They are a fun way to pass the time. I do, however, feel that releasing your anger through playing video games, may not be the right way to dispose of the frustrations. There is only so much venting one can pass off to his/her console. Talking to people seem to be the best way to resolve problematic issues.

The only time I've ever been violent because of a computer game was while playing Soul Calibur 3 and getting thrashed. I got so angry I threw the pad on the floor... nearly hit my friends foot. _
I play a lot of violent games, I love violent movies and I write what some might think is rather perverse and violent fiction at times. However, this does not mean I am a violent person or that would I go out and hurt people just because.
It's called scape-goating. No one is willing to take responsibility for the 'ills of society'. Instead of asking what parents are doing instead of teaching their children right from wrong (and that's a very loaded statement, I know) they find something to blame violence on; movies, anime, computer games...
