I have been posting here in mylot for the last hour and I have noticed that when I start a discussion now it adds to my number by my name. This never used to happen so it must be something new here. Has anyone else noticed this? I am glad for this because I like to see my numbers go up. Try it and you'll see what I mean. The last discussion I started I watched for it and it didn't show up right away, but when I typed the next one my number went up by two. One for the first one and one for the second one. After I post this one I will check again to see if it went up by one or if I have to wait till the next discussion I start before it increases. Have you noticed this or am I wrong and just imagined it?

Well, what I noticed about when I start discussions is that I don't get credit for that one until someone responds to it. I think you have to make your discussions worth responding to or you're not accomplishing anything. And you could sit here all day and just type random thoughts and not be usefull with your posts. They're not paying for that. It has to be a valid discussion
I have been keeping track of my numbers, where I start and end for the day, trying to make sense of how they pay... NO LUCK there!!! I had over 41 posts one day and made 54 cents... the next day, I had 47 posts and only made 48 cents. Then yesterday, I had 37 posts and made 60 cents.
I think ratings make a difference. If you get consistent positive ratings on your posts, that might increase it.
But I have no idea really. I do wish they'd post on here somewhere how that is determined.

Well, you could be right about getting credit in our number when some one responds to it. Maybe that's why I only notice the number going up on my second start discussion, not the one I am posting at the moment. Maybe some one just responded to the one I posted just before. I think you are onto something there.
I have tried to figure out how they pay, too, and I can't figure it out either. I have tried different experiments and nothing makes sense, to me.

Well what I try to make myself do now that I am more familiar with mylot, is to periodicly check on my discussions I start and respond to. Sometimes there is an ongoing debate or more questions.
I just did a little reading in the FAQ's and your pay is partially determined on how your responses and discussions are rated by fellow mylotters. This can really be a valuable tool, if you stick to topics that you are truly interested in or have a good knowledge base about. I try to rate discussions and stuff, but if I don't have an opinion one way or another, I usually just refrain from rating, not my place to decide if it's valuable if I have no knowledge of the subject matter.

It has always happened. It shows how many posts that you have made. Everytime you make a post, your number will go up. I will have to see if it also works when you make a response. So I just refreshed my Firefox browser, to see if it were so. So it is not only your original posts but also your response. I did notice it, but I was always interested in what I am going to post and if I have anything interesting to write.

No it has not always happened. We used to only get an increase in our number when we responded to somes discussion. We never used to get an increase in our number when we started our own discussions.

I know that the number goes up for responses but it is also going up now with discussions. I have noticed that with every second discussion I am posting today the number goes up one point. At first I thought it was going up with every discussion but as I watched it the number went up one on every second discussion I started. It must be something new because I have never noticed it before and I have been a member for 3 months now and I have watched for it before because I wondered why we didn't get a number credit on them. I am glad we are now getting credit by number, for them.

I just made a post and I didn't see the number. Darn, I was really looking forward to it too! Oh well, maybe next time. I hardly ever start a discussion so, it may be a while.

I have actually noticed that, but I am new to the whole mylot.com thing so I just thought that that happened everytime. I like to see my numbers go up too but sadly im only up to like 130 something....So far this has been one of the better sites that I've been on to make money in quiet awhile!

Yep, I have noticed and yes it feels so great to see those numbers going up, lol! Makes you want to post more just to see this happen. I thought it was always like this though, I could be wrong, I have been a member for over a year now, but only really got serious about posting, a little over a week ago, but yep my number has gone way up since then!

Wow. I never noticed this, but I rarely post. I just respond. I can never come up with an original discussion. Everyone has already done the one that I think of. LOL
I will try to come up with a discussion tonight to see this work. I have never really paid attention to this.
Thanks for the 'heads up'.

I think that it might have to do with the size of the posting whether it is stated to just a reply. If it is just a few words then it will not count as a posting, but if it is a well worded post then it counts as a post. I have seen some people that think that they can just ask a question that only needs a one word reply but that is not right. You need to "work" for your numbers to get them.

Has anybody hit infinity yet? What do these numbers mean? Does a high number mean you talk a lot? If somebody answered my questions one by one, will it be more valuable than if they answered them all in one response? Do I ask too many questions?
