should shawshank redemption of redemption of won the oscars

i believe it is an insult to movies i loved tom hanks performance in forrest gump and i also felt it was a very good movie but i thought shawshank was brilliant! i just felt it had some of the best scenes ever! when andy get the beers for his friends and the music he plays in the prison to feel free and who can possibly forget the the famous lines get busy living or get busy dying! what do you people think?

Well, I have to admit I have not seen Forrest Gump, and have no intention of seeing it, so I don't have a fully formed opinion. But, I think The Shawshank Redemption is one of the greatest films made and I'm shocked it didn't win any Oscars.

That was a really good year for movies. I love Shawshank and Forrest Gump, but i think I would have to pick Quiz Show to win best picture from that year. A really fascinating movie with excellent, underated performances.

I borrowed the DVD of SR recently from friends and made my husband watch it as he'd never seen it before. He loved it so much he watched it all over again the very next day and watched all of the extras on the DVD too. My husband rarely sits through a whole film so this says something about how great this film is! It's one of my faves and I also can't believe it didn't win an Oscar as it truly deserved one! x

It should have won an award. However, movies about prisons and about the prison system rarely, if ever wins awards.
Look at "Murder in the First" staring Kevin Bacon an Christian Slater. Kevin was great and deserves an award.
I think Shawshank redemption deserves the best story or even the best picture award as it was well written and a heart warming film.

I both loved shawshank redemption and forrest gump. I love shawshank redempton because it came from the novel of stephen king. (four seasons). I remember that the movie was sold by Stephen King at 1 dollar to the young and aspiring director. I loved forrest gump simply because I loved tom hanks. But when oscar is concern, I willhave to give it to tom hanks.
