Women and a Military Draft

If there ever was a draft women must be drafted along with men. There is no way that a woman can claim equality with men if she will not equally serve military duty.
In the past when there was a Draft women were excluded because they were thought to be FRAIL and UNABLE to do what a man can do. The women's movement and the equality of women to men has put all that aside. There is no way that any woman could claim equal rights to men if she admitted that she was not able to serve in the military on an equal basis. Not including women in a military draft would destroy all equality of women to men.
If a Draft ever came to be -
Are you ready to serve? Are you ready to have your daughters serve?
If not, how can you claim to be equal to men?

The reason that women can not fight on the front lines currently is not because they are weak. The reason given is that men can not stand the sight of women wounded or killed. So, if women were drafted they would have the same behind the scenes jobs as they do now. How much would that help the effort, maybe some. Probably not enough to add females to the draft list.

Well said. If anything it's not the women that are the problem. It's the men. I served for 8 and 1/2 years. But still wouldn't be able to serve on the front lines. I don't think the U.S. is ready yet for women to die. And it's not me trying to be sexist. I'm all for equal rights. But people aren't ready for it yet.

Then that would not be equality, would it? There are plenty of women right now in harms way. Women in a new draft would have to serve equally!

There are not equal rights for women in the military, so why should they be included in the draft?

I am of two minds about women being drafted. My son was a drill Sargent during Desert Storm. Some women can do it some can't. Some times it would take 2 women to do the job that one man could do. also if they are out in the field and fighting and the woman has terrible minstrel cramps, the kind that if they were home would put them to bed, I don't agree with single mothers' being in the military and being sent overseas at all. These children need their mothers home.

Some men can't do it either - but they would be forced to - and so should women. What do the women who are corporate officers do when they have cramps - go home? I don't think that they could remain in high level jobs if that were the case. As for mothers - what about fathers - children need a father too!

Women can not hollar equality on the one hand and than when it is not convenant not want the equality. It has to be straight across the board. I believe that if men have to be drafted than so should women. If we want to be equal to men than we need to realize that that means all the way around.

Nope, I am not ready to serve or have my daughters serve. I am also not ready to have my sons serve! I don't believe either gender should be forced to serve.
My dad, brother, brother-in-law and both my ex-husband and current husband are all military. That was THEIR choice though.

First off, hi qbrand! :O) Crazy to see you here and not on the Etsy forums, for a minute there I thought I was over there! LOL
Second. I agree with you on this one. If women want to be men's equals they have to be willing to do the same things. I like to think that if ever there was a draft that either me (or my daughter) would be prepared to serve. Granted my daughter has a leg up on most, she is being raised with four brothers and no sisters... lol

Yes I believe that women should be in the draft. I have two sons that are draftable and I see no reason why women can't be drafted. They already serve in the military now so what is the big deal. It is only equal for both sons and daughters in this day and age to serve their country in the draft.
