A legal ban on baggy pants.

In some cities they are making baggy pants a crime. You are either fined 500 dollars or spend 6 months in jail.Do you think a legal ban on baggy pants is right?I don't. It isn't a crime to wear your pants baggy. There are people who think it is disrespectful and stupid but it isn't a crime. And what happens when they bust all the teens that are wearing their pants baggy. We will have to turn highschools into jails. And with all these teens with records, how are they going to find good jobs? And if they don't get good jobs , who will support the older generation? The people who are passing these laws think it will make the kids to wear something else, but I see more kids wearing the pants just because they are illegal.
Thank G-d I am not a teen. If I were and I lived in these areas, I would start a protest. We wouldn't picket city hall, I would just get my highschool, and I mean everyone, teachers and students to wera baggy pants for one day.It would be great.
Another thing that this law will do is send a message to tourists not to visit.Could you see he police locking up a tourist because of his pants? it would get such bad press.I guess there should be a site where there is a list of these cities so everyone who wear their pants baggy can either move and more importantly stay out.
I think sooner or later the ACLU will get involved. And the press will have a field day.

I wouldn't try that. Some of the kids won't think it is that funny.

Hi. I have to agree with you that a ban on baggy pants is ridiculous, especially a ban which holds a $500 fine or 6 months in jail. I personally don't like the style and perhaps it is disrespectful, stupid, etc., but this is going overboard. I wish the biggest problem we had in this country was baggy pants, but of course it's not. This would waste taxpayers money and the courts time. And I agree with you about the ACLU getting involved. Only a matter of time.

Why is this law being passed in the first place? Does it have to do with safety? Is it unsafe to wear your pants sagging and a belt strapped acrossed the thighs as opposed to wearing a belt across the waiste? Is this law being passed because some people are wearing their pants in this fashion to commit crimes (stashing loot away in their pants)? If this may be the case they should pass this law in all cities and states.

On the Dr Phil show, the Mayor of Dallas , a city who are trying non criminal ways to ban baggy pants, said that he wanted the baggy pants banned so little girls and older women are not offended by seeing these baggy pants when they are out in public.

Since those that choose to show everyone their underware don't have enough since to pull up their pants, cities are taking matters into their own hands. If you took a poll, there would be way more people that are sick of seeing this than those that wear the pants. If they go in for an interview dressed like that they won't have to worry about whether or not they have a record, they won't get far dressed that way anyway. Personally, I think it looks disgusting (just my opinion) I would rather see a guy in nice fitting jeans then to have them down to his knees.

But should the state make bad taste against the law? If they ban baggy pants then what is the next thing, halter tops, mini skirts? Pretty soon the state will dictate what you Must wear or you will be jailed. And just because a teen wears baggy pants on Saturdays or to school doesn't mean he would wear them to an interview.

absolutely ridiculous.....Its about freedom if expression... the world will be one boring place if people just do what other people tell them to do.....the next you know all sorts of freedom will eventually be curtailed.... the voices of people who oppose this should be heard!

Cool Avatar. I think these laws will be thrown out as soon as they fine or jail the wrong person. I see the ACLU getting involved.

I've always hated these pants...they just look so stupid. I don't think I'd go to the extreme of making them illegal but at the same time...if kids could only see how they really look. I do think schools should ban them just b/c I think it's really distracting to try to be studying and have someone butt hanging out in the next aisle.

I'm not saying I like the whole "wearing your pants low so people can see your underwear" thing. And the whole reason for pants is to cover up that area, right? But I guess people should be able to wear their clothes any way they want since they are the ones buying them.

More and more of our freedoms are being taken away. While I personally don't like the look of baggy pants myself, perhaps many didn't like the look of bell-bottoms either. America is supposed to be the land of the free, and frighteningly enough our freedoms are slowly being abolished. What will be illegal next??

It's not just the '"Baggy" Pants, Nowadays you see a lot of dudes who wears SKINNY/ or Fitted Jeans that looks tight fitted and Sags them down with their butt cheeks show out. Now that looks way WORSE. I've been wearing Baggy Jeans all my life and NEVER, EVER sag them in my entire life. So I going to Have to AGREE with let's ban the SAGGING PANTS. It's too irritating. Nightclubs will tell them to PUT THEM UP anyways.
