From what I know, there are no medical benefits to circumcision. I grew up in a Christian family that circumcised their sons, and my fiance is circumcised as well - so my opinion on it is kind of neutral. On the one hand I realize it has no benefits, on the other, I'm used to it, so it doesn't seem like a big deal.
Personally, I think that if it's part of someone's religion, then by all means go ahead and cut. However, if people are doing it purely for cosmetic reasons, perhaps they should leave that up to their son when he's old enough to make that decision.

What reason do you have to think that way? I bet my answer #6 addresses it. :/

I think foreskin is unappealing so if I had a boy I would have him circumcised. I think it is healthier and cleaner and looks nicer. I am an atheist so religion doesn't affect my opinion. I have date men that weren't circumcised and it just didn't do it for me.

"I think foreskin is unappealing so if I had a boy I would have him circumcised."
That's unbelievably selfish. That child is an individual, not a doll for you to carve into whatever form you like. Would you constantly dye your child's hair (or permanently change the color if you could) if it was born with a hair color you find "unappealing"? Listen to yourself, for crying out loud.
You might think it's healthier and cleaner, but it isn't. There is not a single major medical organization in the world that condones routine circumcision. Not one. That should tell you something about how much "healthier" it is. And as for "cleaner", what makes it cleaner is WASHING--whether or not there is a foreskin there doesn't matter. A foreskin is just a piece of skin; it's not inherently dirtier than any other piece of skin on the body.

Circumcision before was for a sign of the covenant made between God and Abraham which Abraham shall do to himself and his son Ismael and all males in the household of him and that was done and also to all the descendants of Abraham on the eighth day from birth and therefore the Israelites were circumcised. God had the purpose and may be one of them is also hygiene. If it is proven that it is more hygienic if a male is circumcised, then they should be circumcised.

A lot of people who are cut have nasty hygene. Just because you are cut does not mean you are germ free.
I've also slept with a man who was not cut due to problems at birth. He was by far one of the cleanest men I had ever seen. Not a problem one.
As long as the man knows what to do with it, I don't care one way or another. But I do think it's cruel.

I don't see circumcision having to do anything with religion, personally. I just think it's more hygenic and more attractive.

Yeah my religion require a circumcision for a male. Men should be circumcise between the time of 7 days after birth to before they become adult...you know before they have their first fall. I think circumcise will make them more healthier and cleaner as the foreskin will trap the dirt or what they called as a white cheese from their genital part.

Sick, sick, sick, you want to cut off part of a non-consenting child's pen1s, for no medical or hygiene benefit. Abuse!

It is not required by my religion, as we see Christ as the "new circumcision" the covenant is now baptism. Though some still practice it for whatever reasons they have...
I do think it is painful to the infant... you ever get ketchup in a papercut, wowzy does that sting... imagine urine in a circumcision wound! woooooo.

well I had mine done at birth and didnt have much choice in the matter. It wasnt a religious thing just alot of doctors do it at birth here in the states. Only real opinion I have is that those are some mighty big tools in that picture and I am glad I had it done at birth cause I sure wouldnt get it done now no matter how much it pleased anyone else.

I do think it is good for health and that is why some religions require it.
Here is a good link if anyone wants to look up more info on it: www.cafemom.com/group/13109

I am against circumcision! I did not circumcise my son. I think it is cruel and not neccessary. Besides the way it looks there is nothing benefitial to being circumcised and I think can cause more problems if children are circumcised then if they are just left alone. Its there for a reason just like any other part on our body so why cut it off just because thats what everyone else is doing.

Uh! Such a horrible way for religion and health, too. Such a horrible way of seeing the religion.

I'm a Catholic, so no, my religion does not require it. However, I know that lots of parents still choose to circumsise their sons for health reasons. I know of a guy whose parents had him circumsised because they are from South Africa. Apparently the heat is a breeding ground for disease, so it was less of a risk that way.
