Laws that are a waste of time and serve no purpose.

I've heard that some state legislatures and city counsels are considering banning the use of cell phones while driving. Some may have already bassed these worthless laws.
What makes a law worthless? One that bans something that there are already laws covering it. One banning something based on false premises. One that bans something that shouldn't be banned in the first place.
Almost every city, county and state have laws banning "innattentive driving". If your city, county or state have that on the books, but are trying to ban cell phones anyway, the lawmakers pushing for it are piss poor leaders.
Some laws are good at the city or county level, but have no business being on the state books. If your state is considering, or has passed a law banning smoking in bars, restaurants or other privately owned businesses, they are piss poor leaders.
If your city, county or state bans private ownership of guns, you have piss poor leaders.
Btw, what I mean by "piss poor leaders" is, leaders who play on lies and misinformation instead of facts and honesty when considering what should be illegal and what should be legal.

Inattentive driving is not specific. A law designed to cover everything, will inevitably cover nothing. I have NEVER seen anyone in my state pulled over for driving while using a cell phone. Since I regularly have to swerve to avoid these morons who never even realize they are about to hit my car, I think the law is necessary. Politicians who pass these laws are taking away one more thing that makes the roads dangerous. Sure there are other behaviors that make driving dangerous, but I'll take what I can get. Way too many people are driving while on the phone and they are completely oblivious when they cause accidents or when drivers like me are swerving to avoid them.

sorry, but a pet peave is no reason to target a person.

We've had "innattentive driving" laws for decades. They seemed to work for decades. It's only nowadays that we have become such babies that we need things spelled out for us.
But we're letting one of the examples become the point. The point is, we are allowing... no, we are demanding our legislators pass useless laws. If an activity is already illegal, what good is another law making it illegal?

Maybe you're just stuck in the past. See, the year is 2008. People have these things called "Cell Phones". They're kind of like a Telephone, except you can use them anywhere, even in a car, while driving. Now those laws that we've had for decades, were written before we had these "Cell Phones". As a result, they don't cover the use of "Cell Phones". Maybe in your eyes they do, but not in the eyes of police. That's why police aren't pulling people over and ticketing them for cell phone usage, except in states that have laws banning the use of cell phones while driving. Police are the ones that enforce the laws, and THEY are the ones who need the laws spelled out for them. Otherwise they get challenged and overturned in court.

...sometimes I think all some people want to do is sit around and make more laws and rules for others... I think most things are already covered.. or shouldn't be laws at all. Less is better, God summed it up in ten, but people seem to want millions..

Yup, mostly because the don't want the responsibility that comes with thinking for themselves.

True, it's all part of the checks and balances between We the People, the Community and the Government. Anytime one exerts too much pressure on the others, personal freedom suffers.
