I am interested in becoming registered and licensed to run an at home daycare. Is anyone out there doing this? What did you have to do to get approved? How long did it take? What rates do you charge? What other advice could you give me. Thanks!

The hardest parts of getting licensed was taking the classes. There were 4 different ones you had to take, and one was a two day class (had to equal 15 hours). That took a good month, month and a half of Saturdays to complete. Also, had to get the house completely prepped for the inspection...most of the stuff I needed to do anyway because I have a newborn, but you really have to go above and beyond to make your home safe.
As for what to charge, you should really call around local centers and daycare providers to see what they are charging. Just tell them you are interesting in finding care for your child, and they'll tell you their rates. That's the only way to see what is fair and reasonable where you live, prices vary a lot.

Hiya here in the UK, you have to go on a 2 week course, and they have to come around and inspect your property. They check if everywhere is safe and secure for children.
Thanks B

Hello, I used to own a commercial daycare (47 kids) and it was a long process to get everything set-up, however, depending on what state you are in, you may not need any licensing if you stay under a certain amount for attendance. For example, in Missouri, if you have less than 4 children (legal limit anyway for children over 2), you're not required to be licensed. If you plan on taking infants, be careful here, this is a risking option as things can go wrong as we all know! Start by visiting your state departments website, you should be able to find the info you need there, if not, call them! I wouldn't do anything until you know what's required.

most people change like $10 a hour but the price is up to you, i would say that it is hard to get license to run a at home daycare, but to find out information on that go to yahoo and type in the formation that you are looking for
