I am not afraid of flying but I often get a lot of pain in my ears during the descent. What I've found helps is what I learnt when learning to scuba diving. It's 'equalising'. Blowing out with your lips closed whilst holding your nose. It seems to change the equilibrium and helps me a lot, not really sure whether I am meant to do it in the sky lol.

Hello SamH86,
Welcome to mylot, I hope you enjoy your stay here!:-)
I am not scared of flying at all, SamH86. I have flown in planes and also in choppers of different types. But, I understand that some people are afraid of flying because of a condition called height phobia. Some people can't deal with the change in weight especially associated with ascending or descending which causes nausea and they feel like vomiting. Some peoples' ears are sensitive to flight and get blocked or starts paining while flying. I don't think there are many other reasons for some not liking flying!

Some people are scared of flying of the sensational news of crashed planes but studies show that there are more land transpo accidents than in water and air but then, when one airplane crashes, there are more casualties and more likely, they will be in the news that why most people are afraid to fly.

I am terrified. I have always said that if I got on a plane, it would crash or be hijacked. After 9/11, I really don't want on one.

I have never been scared of flying. I love flying. I even take pictures, and now that I have a new video camera I'll take videos, out the window, as the plane takes off and lands. There's nothing better than flying, when I want to really GO SOMEWHERE.
