She wakes up more grumpy then coming home from school grumpy. I usually like to talk to her about what is going on the rest of the day. Try to get her mind off of waking up in the morning. If you have something exciting going on later that usually gets them out of the grumpyness. If she has had a rough night (weather or just couldn't sleep) I try and wake her up with a kiss or rub her back. Waking her up softly instead of flipping the light on is a little better.
After school maybe talk to them about the day. What did they do at recess, art, gym. I would try more of the fun stuff. It probably is more of just being tired then being grumpy. If she comes home grumpy that means she is hungry RIGHT NOW. If I have a snack ready for her she usually cheers up right away.

Come to think of it, my other daughter has had a cough at night and they share the same room so this might be the cause of my other daughter's grumpiness. The cough may be keeping her somewhat awake. Kids in school.....they are always sick. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

Sometimes they come home grumpy..when they do I know they had a bad day and I find out why then talk to them about it..if there is a solution to be had we figure it out and sometimes its just a matter of their mood running its course ya know...If the kids havent had a good nights sleep they'll not only wake up grumpy but they;ll come home grumpy too..When that happens I know it just because they are tired and need an early night to bed..

Mine doesn't like for me to ask her how her day was. Eventually I've learned she'll tell me on her own. I think she might be missing her dad, but then again when he's here she's still grumpy. I tried playing a board game with her today and she was complaining about everything. it is really hard to enjoy fun time with the kids when the kids are soooo grumpy. She wanted to play the board game too.
