Did you know that one shouldn't cook thier vegetavbles in the microwave? One should also refrain from boiling and pressure cooking vegetables. These methods of cooking destroy 90 percent of the healthy antioxidants in the vegetables! They should be eaten raw or gently steamed. Did you know this? I knew that boiling them was harmful, but I often 'steam' my veggies in the microwave!

I have read that it depends on the veggies. Some veggies are helped by steaming or microwaving, others are not. Most food is altered to the point of being complete junk and void of nutrition when microwaved which is why - in my opinion - people should not have a microwave in their home.

Where did you get the info about cooking the veggies in the microwave? I have not heard of cooking veggies in the microwave killing the vitamines and antioxidants.

Hi teapot, I got that information from an article in this month's Prevention magazine. The article was written by a nutritionist, but as we know, one has to read more than one article to get all the angles. I will be doing more research on the issue before I make a decision!

I've heard that about boiling the veggies, but not about microwaving them. So, that means we can't steam them to nuke them either?! Sheesh, and I thought I was doing good doing it that way lol. Oh well, learn somethin' new every day. Thanks for letting us know:-)

Thanks for the information. I had no idea, and I always use the microwave to heat up canned veggies.

Where are you geting this from?
It's been a contentious issue with health foodies for... well as long s we've used microwaves. But so far I've not seen much in the way of evidence.
And what about stews and soups? The food stuffs that have kept us out of illness and comforted many a flu victim in winter?
