Which do you prefer...voice mail or answering machine? Which do you have?

I haven't had an answering machine in so many years that I can't even remember how long it's been. I have voice mail on both my cell phone and my landline and love it. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that it's another password that I have to remember! When I have voicemail on my cell the phone will beep and then an icon will show up on the screen and when someone leaves a message on my landline a red light on the phone base blinks until I check my calls.
Which do you prefer? Do you have either or both?

I do prefer voicemail since you can call it from anywhere. BUT - I still love an answering machine. So easy to screen calls without having to pay for caller ID. Plus it is easier to erase the message because I don't have to wait til it is finished. So both are an advantage. No clear winner here for me.

That's what I hate most about voicemail. Press this to save, this number to delete..yada yada yada...such a pain in the butt.

I very much prefer the answering machine because the missed calls and messages are within reach of a button. Voice mail I'd have to call a number then give my password and then hear how many I have before I get to my messages.

You do have a point there. It gets to be a pain and with my memory I even forget the number I have to call to get my messages...lol

I never had a answering machine. The home cell phone has voice mail. I don't usually use a phone so I can't say which I like best. Most of the messages I get are emails and texts.

I have both..I have an answering machine on my house phone and voice mail on my cell, i use them both...I hate the phone most of the time especially my home phone.I bet i get 10 calls a day from salemen, or someone wanting me to try something or buy something..If i see it is an unknown number i just do not answer...I only answer people that i know..I have put my number on that don't call list and it helps some but it does not cut out all the calls...

We have voice mail and I love it! I love the fact that I can check it from any phone. With an answering machine it is harder to do that.

I only have my land line, ctry, and I finally broke down and got an answering machine about a year ago. I find the phone to be more of a nuisance than anything else, most of the time. My phone seems to always be ringing and that interferes with my getting anything done. Sometimes I wish I did not need one at all. I really don't know why I bothered to get the answering machine because I rarely check messages. My daughter will check them when she comes over since the red light is always blinking. Maybe I'm just rude.

I don't consider it being rude. I seldom answer my phone just because I don't want to.

I have voice mail on my phone at home and on my cell. I prefer voice mail over an answering machine, because I don't have to pay for buying an answering machine this way. I don't pay very much on my phone bill, for this service. On my cell phone I pay $5.00 a month for the extra package that has speed dial and call waiting and call display as well as voice mail. On my land line I pay an extra 95 cents a month for the voice mail. If I were to buy a answering machine it would cost about $100 for a good one, so why bother.
