Let me share with you today from my daily devotional,
The salvation wrought for us by the Lord Jesus isnt that He did something to get us out of our sins, somebody said, "I was drowing in sin, but Jesus reached out His hand and rescued me", no! That's not the picture of the salvation that Jesus consummated for us. He didnt reach out His hands to get us out of sin; what He did was to die in our place! He was condemned in our place, thus paying the full penalty for our sins

As Savior Jesus is the one who rescues (saves) us, but your point about what He actually did is so very important. Reaching out to get us doesn't convey what He actually did.
It's hard for many folks to believe that Jesus could be God and who became a man so that He could live a sinless life and then be the one perfect lamb to be slain for our sins, in our place. He got what we all deserve.
Thanks for reminding us of what should always be at the heart of the gospel.

That is a standpoint I share but repeatedly find it difficult to explain to people;and it irks me, because thinking otherwise prevents the xtian from enjoying the spirit of freedom to its fullness.
